Let me get this straight. You already have the fastest guys from the GP's coming over to race your National series, the factories put put loads of money into the series, the sponsors are making the fan experience better every year and you think that MX needs "fresh air"???

The only thing that the GP's seem to have over the U.S. Nationals is the track setup and look of the event. The GP's have a more polished look to me, but the Nationals have been making progress each year IMO.

Wow, just heard that on motoverte.com....

GPs should start after the US SX Championship overseas. 1 GP in Australia, 2 maybe 3 in the US, 1 in Brazil then back to Europe in August.

To be confirmed (or not) tomorrow in a press conference...

Wow, I thought we were doing okay with the nationals. All of those fans and TV viewers for Hangtown seemed to like it anyway. The riders and teams too. And I didn't realize Monster dropped us; did Red Bull drop the GPs? Or did they maybe just do a different deal with a new sponsor like we did?

I know it's fun to stir up trouble and tear down and all, but it's also fun to be part of building something too.

MX Sports
MX Sports is doing a great job DC, and headed to even better places. People on here just type anything they can think of no matter the truth just so they can see theirself on the board.

The Nationals are the top teir race series.

Who's paying for this?

There are what, 20 something regular GP riders at the USGP and a few locals (including some very slow ones). Even the CCM factory team couldn't afford to come. Who really thinks that the GP teams can afford to go race all over the world when they struggle to fit in one USGP?

The USGP was arranged after the season had started as a late replacement for the British GP. Race teams operate within very tight budgets that are determined before the season starts and the teams that aren't there obviously couldn't stretch to it.

CCM are a a bit different as they are probably the only big team with no sister team, if you like, in America. Therefore they can't borrow a race truck to pit out of, or spares etc. Whats more, one of their riders has missed a few races through illness and things dont appear to be going particularly well for the team at the moment.

The teams should be able to work out the travel logistics next year, aslong as they are clear about where they'll be racing in advance.

So next year, with 4 or 5 fly-away races at what, €40-50k a time more than a normal GP, they'll just 'get more budget' then?

Yup. Easy.

I didnt say it would be easy. But they did it in the past, and have travelled to Japan, South Africa and Brazil in the last few years.

I dont understand why Americans feel such a hatred and distain for the GP's. You guys are always telling us that we create the 'us against them' mentality, yet we embrace the Nationals and take pleasure from watching Motocross, wherever it is, whoever is racing, and in whatever the circumstances. At the end of the day, once that gate drops its simply 30-40 riders racing to the chequered flag.

Absolutely. I'm not hatin' on the GPs or the riders. But just watch, unless Luongo starts putting some money back into the sport the GPs will implode. Watch those overseas races become a race of 15 GP guys and a load of local also-rans while the likes of MVRD, KTM UK etc go the way of so many other long-standing GP teams like RWJ, Multitek etc.

Well, what's new is that Youthstream used to compensate the teams in free shipping space and a fee per rider for travelling and have an ageement with the short-lived Teams association (MXTAG) to limit the amount of overseas GP's and GP's overall.

They stopped paying compensations and increased the number of GP's -and, in this plan, of overseas races- so basically the teams are forced to follow whatever plan Y/S and the FIM have for them (since they agreed to stop their association and have no direct weight whatsoever on the decisions made).

And in the current economic situation, it looks like a real challenge ahead of them.

YS is going to need a television network and fan attendance at the USGP to get sponsors in the USA interested in sponsoring GP teams.

Today's race has no US television broadcast and the attendance is very low, which means no $$$ from sponsors.

And why is the attendence so low?

Because the American media and subsequently most of the fans dismiss the GP series as second rate. If most of the crap thats posted on here is representative of how most American MX fans feel about the World Championship then it shouldn't be a surprise that attendencs is low.

The American media is not responsible for promoting races. The promoters (YS and GH) are responsible for promoting the race.

I have not seen Racer X, Dirt Rider or TWMX write negative articles about the GP's or refer to them as a 2nd rate series. The only negative media about the GP's has always been from MXA. And now that Jody is part of the USGP, MXA has done a 180.

OLD!!! that arguent has fail written all over it!
I´ll give you a quick answer: for the very same reason why Mike Alessi upon answering if he could "take us through" moto 1 said: Jaegermeister KTM, Dunlop, Airoh helmets, Red Bull, Alpinestars etc, etc

I´ll give you a quick answer: Larger single offroad/MX market for manufacturers to exploit, hence more money to spend in the AMA series.

As with most sports in America you can earn a lot of money. Do you think Beckham chose American soccer due to the debth or the ridiculous amounts of money he was paid?
It´s not the best example in the world, but it proves the point at least

Don't forget the very large sanctioning fee.
