Why aren't the GP cheerleaders talking up "Big Ken"???

I remember a certain someone who back in 06 wasn´t too happy about riding on pretty much stock equipment either.... ;-)
Desalle overcame it last year, Ken couldn´t. Then again, it´s not uncommon for him to place like that in the GP´s either

Oh, and just so everyone knows....this has nothing to do with Ken...I'm just doing a little good natured ribbing of the GP fans on the sight.

Ken is a great rider. And I'm glad he signed up to race the national, I wish more GP riders would have done the same. (And I wish more national racers would race the GP).

I got the impression while at the track that everyone was pretty impressed with his ride, all things considered. It was great having him there.

He had some great lines in certain sections. Charged in moto 1, but faded by the mid-point in moto 2. Made that 450 look small.

With a stock bike, he probably wore it out hauling his huge personage around in the first moto.

Pretty reasonable performance on an unknown track on a showroom bike.

One simple answer: Because he's Ken DeDijcker. You never know what to expect. He's far from being an european hope.

Yeah.. Desalle did great in the same situation. But like you said Ken's results in the GPs this year have been very similar to where he finished at Hangtown. I sure wish the Ken D from late last year would of showed up at Hangtown. That guy can haul ass when he wants too. Problem is this year is hasn't been that Ken once yet.

It was sweet to see him ride... Awesome that he took the opportunity to race, when he had nothing to gain from it. If his bike was production, like some say, he's a tougher man than most!

It was a production bike but he brought his suspension and exhaust w/him from Europe.

8th = Ryan Dungey 10-6
9th = Ken DeDycker 8-11
10th = Andrew Short 15-5

Seems like all three of these would have liked to have done a tad better. Ken D. beat Short and finish right behind Dungey.

Dude rides for the #1 Yamaha team in the GP's and has won GP races. Its not like he is a slouch....

He had his suspension and his pipe. I am sure the bike wasnt holding him back.

DeDycker did very well under the sircumstances. I don't think, however, to overall really tells the story that shows there if you're talking about rider speed. Both Short and Dungey did a lot of moving forward from really crappy positions at the beginning of the moto, while DeDycker got decent starts and slid back.

I think a great statistic to see in those situations where you have a guy you expect to do better overall would be riders passed. For sure, though, the overall is what it is and reflects what guys do in a race from the drop of the gate, including guys who make it hard on themselves like Short and Dungey (Barcia in the 250's) regardless of how fast they're going.

Why is it the "Euro's" that come here and ride seem to do better than the Americans that go over there?

Because no top American riders (and since Ken is 5th in points in the GP's I'd say he's a top rider) go there to race, where the top GP riders come here.

Send Reed, or Alessi, or Townley or Millsaps, or Short or Dungey over to a GP and they'd do very well.

I think you'll find that Rinaldi are the #1 Yamaha team in the GP's. Probably the top Yamaha motocross team in the World for that matter.

A bit harsh on Zack O. I think! the guy has won G.P.s and showed some serious speed. This year he's also getting some consistancy. Jimmy Albertson has also showed well in the short time he's been there. Mike Brown regularly ran towards the front. So who are these non-performing Americans of which you speak?

Jet lag probably hurt Ken in the 2nd moto. Thats one reason ours riders will have a advantage at the GP. Although i did see Musquin in the pits so he should be good to go by GH.

Why is it being brought up that he was handicapped with a "stock 450", then in the same breath singing the praises of Alessi's 350 being more than enough to win??

I watched Ken closely, and he was very fast. He had a great first moto, on a different bike, and kind of slowed down towards the end of the second moto. He finished right about where I thought he would (I think I had him down as ninth on a napkin the night before) but I have to sat he's much better than his results show for the day. He looked genuinely happy to be at the races trying something new.....

I hope and expect him to do better at the GP, because that's what he's really here for, and that's the bike he's been riding all year.

a pipe does nothing.. he's big and need alot of power.. and at the first race he started midpack...

Ken isn't a major player for the win in the GP's anymore so keeping that in mind, I think he did pretty well. There aren't too many Americans that could just fly across the Atlantic, show up at a random race on a stock motor and place in the top ten.

I say good job.

No one said that the 350 is stock...

Besides, look at how close the lap times are between the 250 and 450 classes. It'll be interesting to see how much the 350 tips the scales at. Remember, it's e-start.

even if Alessi's 350 isn't stock, it still has 100cc less....and the argument is that 350 is enough.....and then those same people make excuses for KD having just a stock 450. Are they saying he would have done better on a modified 350? Maybe the argument is that the power to weight ratio is better with the lighter 350 than a heavier 450? hmmm..
