I mentioned it earlier and the week, but now it's now official: KTM has homologated its 2011 KTM 250 SFX, along with the 350, which means that Tommy Searle has a brand new '11 motorcycle to unveil at Hangtown. What does that mean? We'll know more Saturday!

He's been riding it over there for a while though? Not really an unveiling is it?

How about racing next year's bike on the AMA circuit, which is a big deal here -- we don't have works bikes in AMA Supercross or Motocross -- and it's a pretty big deal for KTM too.

So KTM will be running an '11 outdoors and Susuki guys this year in SX were running '09s... KTM is going for it. Pretty Cool DC. Anymore surprises?

Not sure if Tommy was riding a 2011 model at Pala yesterday, but it had linkage and he looked amazing on it. I'd say he's going for it...

Kudo's to KTM for keeping motocross on the cutting edge when the other mfgs. don't really seem to give a damn. The constant upgrades to their 2 stroke line obviously is impressing a whole lot of people. Damn shame the AMA in their infinite wisdom killed off the 125 class and put the 250 2 stroke out to pasture with ridiculous displacement advantages. Hopefully MX Sports has something in mind for the 2 strokes in professional racing in the near future since we know we can't rely on the AMA for anything. If there is a place in professional racing for them, they will make a comeback a whole lot sooner.

That's the bike I unveiled photos of a while back.

From what I'd been told, it's the 2011 chassis and engine, but they're running a carb version, rather than EFI this summer. We'll see what they show up with at the track.

would that make KTM Europe's bike's eligible ??

EFI just not dialed in yet?

Not sure the reasoning behind that one. That was as of a couple months ago (originally posted on March 26th). We'll have to see what they're running at Hangtown.

Here's a link to the photos...

Cool. I want to buy one. Where can I find one of them for sale in the country?

Should I hold my breath?

I believe there has to be 400 of the 2011 bikes either sold or on showroom floors by August 1, according to the AMA's homologation rules. That makes it a production bike for motocross (the date for Supercross is May 1, I believe, which is why they didn't race it this year). Same goes for the 350.

does the 350 get a weight advantage over the 450 or does the 450 class have a min weight requirement for the class no matter what size?

Hopefully KTM can win over more people in the States this season! Odd how bad their rep is in the USA compared to Europe.

The 350 is considered the same "class" as the 450. (MX1 overseas and in Canada).

The bike doesn't get a weight break, but the engineers get a break in where they put the weight.

They won me over. I had been on Yamahas since I started riding in 2002, and bought a 2010 250sx this past October......I'm sold on them.
