Since my older posts in this thread, Vertex has been producing a new series of pistons for the TPI/TBI 300's instead of just using the older carb pistons. 23375 series is the older part for the carb 300's and 24244 series is the newer part for the TPI/TBI 300's. I do not have a 24244 here to compare side by side with the older one, so I am not sure if the skirt length or thickness is different or if this new piston was developed specifically to address the crank contact issue. I've heard it has the ring locator pins placed differently. For the new series, they did make it smaller diameter and match the OEM sizes, 71.925 and 71.926. Maybe they think the TPI/TBI need slightly more cylinder clearance?
For the 250, they continue to still spec the same old carb piston for the TBI bikes... 23630 series.
Thanks for the update…I need to do my top end…
If someone gets a new Vertex with the updated PN please share measurements. I would love to know what they changed.
Looks like the 300 KTM genuine piston part number has changed as well now . It is now a different part to the 23/24 ( it wasn’t a couple of weeks ago )

Ordering this Slavens top end kit for my 300sx, noticing the updated part# for the piston
kit.
The newest piston is Elko, part number A45030007000 I (71.925mm size)
The intake skirt is .2mm (.008") longer than before (Vertex piston is the last photo)
I would think the intake skirt would have been made shorter?
To anyone that has performed a top end service …. Is the special tool needed in this photo to set powervalve ?
Turned 95hrs yesterday, another deep sand beatdown. Figured Its time for a too end. Piston look good and cylinder like new, the powervalve definitely needed service but was working fine.I git ghe new Vertex, looks exactly like the stock piston, I need to get a new caliper to measure the skirt. Powervalve reassembly is a little vague in the service manual, I took alot of before photos, I think I have it right. The only other thing I noticed was the inside head oring that goes on top of the cylinder, was starting to melt on the intake side? No leaks but probably not far off from it.

Bst I can tell, with harbore freight gauge , skirt slightly smaller….. good for another 100hrs of sand jams… great practice bike, clutch & rubber bumpers next….
96hrs on stock clutch, fibers still within spec
, just barely. Rotella T6. Clutch abuser, 80% of thise 96hrs were in deep sand. Replaced rubber bumpers also.basket, inner hub & pressure plate look perfect.
