My dad used to buy Maico's and KTM's from Barry at H&H in GA. Heard a story one time about Barry lining up for an ISDE qualifier in Tellico Plains TN, he pulled up to start the test and was supposed to have I guess a license plate on his bike and didn't. He had some sharpie numbers/letters wrote on the rear fender. The lady at the check asked where his license plate was and he pointed to the rear fender, said this is my tag from czechoslovakia. She said ok and off he went lol.

The Maico Meister.  Saw him racing a senior class moto in Florida Winter AMA 1986.

When you first attended local Motocross races, who was that individual that you really, really admired ?           *For me, and other youngsters growing up in the mid-70’s in New England, (NESC)- Jimmy Ellis was the MAN. We were absolutely in awe of this rowdy gentleman .

I telling you this guy was so far ahead it was amazing to see. He was doing back flips in the 70’s

This guy.  The first American with a factory ride.  A transplanted New Yorker in the South.

Barry Higgins won the first race I ever attended when I was 11 years old.  I was hooked.  Within 6 months I had convinced my parents to let me race...so off came the lights from my SL70 and on went a piece of Formica countertop that my Mom handpainted my new number...73u...which was Barry's AMA number in 1971.  Almost ended up using Gary Bailey's 24x instead.

Got a picture with Barry in January of 1972 at the coldest race I have ever been to.  It was 16 degrees that day in Concord, AL. Oh, yeah.  I went 1-1-1 that day and broke the frame on my SL70.

It's a '70 Challenger for sure, and the exhaust is correct for a T/A, but the complete graphic is missing. Beautiful car either way. I owned a bunch of Challengers in the mid 80's (and a few Roadrunners & Chargers also), and I kick myself for selling my last one - '72 Rallye 340 pistol grip with 40k miles. I was the 2nd owner & it was mint.

Those pants I wearing are naugahyde that my Mom cut out from a pattern and had a local lady with an upholstery sewing machine sew.  At the time there was very little to no off the shelf riding gear for kids.  Certainly was NONE in the Southeast at the time.  I had to wait almost a year until my foot grew to a size 6 so I could wear those Full Bore boots.  Motocross was so innocent back then...we didn't know how good we had it.

Late 70's in East Texas area, Derrick Wedding.  Dude would show up with a 125, 250, and 400 RM's and would smoke the local pros in all classes.  He had a small cowbell on his handlebars and someone told me it was to keep him awake when he was out front, LOL.  It was my last year on 80's (1978) and I was in awe of how fast he went around the old Thunder Ridge track in Longview/Kilgore.  He raced some pro, but never made it big.

He had a ride with Pro Circuit for awhile.

Still shows up and races vintage in the Dallas area from time to time, too.

I don’t know about hero because I was older than him, but I remember seeing Darian Sanayei at the Pasco Arenacross when he was probably five years old on a 50. He was jumping this triple that I don’t remember anyone else doing on less than an 85. Kids were hanging over the railing holding up three fingers so he would keep doing it. That was the first time I saw a kid that I absolutely knew would make the pro ranks. I later met his dad at the GP in Charlotte and got to discuss raising kids on dirt bikes.

Trey Jorski in the early 1980s.  He was the king of 59th & Douglas in OKC. Absolute wild man!

Pete Murray at Ascot. Remember him battling (and winning) with Jim Holley at the last race at Ascot. Man I loved getting picked up from elementary school with the bikes loaded up and ready to race Ascot on Friday nights. Good memories, shitty dirt!

Sean Dukes here in GA

There was a guy who raced when I was still in high school but I can't remember his name! He raced both CR500 and CR250, I bought a ton of gear from him when I was first learning to ride

Mxa did a few page spread on the muddy creek Tn. Shoot out. riders from the se, ne, fl, Ohio and mi. Big money race. No rider went 1-1.  Dukes won 250a there’s a pic of him in mxa of the race, Killer style. I thought I took a pic of it but I don’t hv it. 1989 mxa. In Wi. We had Eron correct spelling of Aron , Ezerins. He was know as Wi. Most winning rider.  Lake Geneva Fri night sx was real popular with Chicago & Milwaukee money thrown in, packed grandstands also. Kawi flew Gaddis to all the 15 rnds, Ezerins won the 125,250 title. The winner got a gold ring, etc . They raced sun at Byron iL. Another great payout. Eron said he made 4,800 one week. He never lost even at the big money races. AX in the winter & a little bit of Florida. Where he beat the fastest guy, he was pissed saying who the f is that Ezerins. On stock RM,s including the pipe . I never heard of any rider doing that. IMG 9243 1.jpeg?VersionId=opJNRFLfh8L68fOmMTndCZavChad Johnson won every Byron nuclear series race for 2 yrs b class then a. Win at red Bud etc. I think he’s the only rider from the 90-2000,s . That still wins 450a , 30a, 25a.
