If Dungey won the SX championship and then wanted to sit out the outdoor season he'd be mocked (and rightly so). James did not earn the right to sit the outdoor series out. He was just getting started in the 450 class and then wussed out of the outdoor Nationals. Period.

He is putting his potential legacy on the line. I repeat: he might not get another legitimate shot at a championship...the young hungry guys will not be making it easy on him.

James is the fastest motocross/supercross racer in the world. It's not even arguable. I don't think I would call him the greatest motocross/supercross racer in the world, but I'm not sure, because I haven't given it much thought. Of the active riders, I can't think of anyone greater off the top of my head. I've seen him race maybe a dozen Nationals and was in awe every time. I'd love to see James race outdoors this year, who wouldn't?

I also understand his reasons for not necessarily wanting to do the Nationals. Have you ever raced the National series, Retired? (By the way, what's your name? I mean, rather than be all cryptic in here, please tell me your name so I don't have to call you Retired anymore. Thanks.) By the time the Supercross Series is finished a rider is pretty burned out...and that's assuming he stayed healthy, which very few do. The two week break is barely enough time for them to lick their wounds before having to get back on a plane and hit the nationals. Who could blame a rider for wanting to heal up and enjoy the fruits of his labor?

I don't think race has anything to do with him getting a "pass". I don't even know what "pass" you're referring to. WTF would his amateur career have to do with any pass?

I'd be willing to bet that James comes out and kicks ass next year in SX.

Oh, and I had more pussy than I knew what to do with during my whole career and it never slowed me down.

Maybe you didn't mean anything by it, but it read like a challenge of my abilities and experience. Maybe if we had the benefit of verbals I would have had a different approach than to look at your profile, see you were African American and assume you were being biased towards James in the face of my semi-educated opinion.

Hey Bauer, I'm Driscoll. I've gone by RCP since I first joined SX.com way back. I used that name after lurking for a few days and saw a bunch of grommets (like squidfirefish)acting like they knew everything about our sport. This board has a better pedigree, that's obvious (which is nice).

I agree with much of what you just posted (except for the Pussy-I stayed out late getting some an several occasions and up not doing so well the next day...but that's just me I guess)

There's no doubt that James had the most speed of any of the riders up to the point that he crashed out of the series; I'm not arguing that. I'm talking about his current commitment. He's obviously unconcerned with the most important and germaine aspect of this sport--Outdoor Motocross.

After listening for years about James this and James that, he's become a disappointment: He won't ride outdoors, he crashes out of the one series he does ride, he bling blings around and doesn't understand that his window for winning championships is finite.

Most professionals have about a 5-6 year window in terms of peak performance and he's WASTING it by choosing to only ride SX and then only racing a few of the series events.

My prediction is that he doesn't get another SX championship and goes into the "wasted talent" catagory. There are many others in this catagory, and he reminds me of them.
I think it's funny you consider someone who not only qualifies for main events, but won all three AMA Supercross championships, and went 24-0, in outdoors "wasted talent".

There's a difference, between someone who is wasted talent, and someone who doesn't live up to your expectations. I see what you're saying though, he could have a few more titles, but to say the guy is wasted talent is a bit overboard, in my opinion.

Who cares what JS does. He was insignificant in SX due to injury and will be insignificant with the outdoors starting. Stop crying over him - he is not crying over you. I do hope he can come back and be a factor for the SX championship next year - only time will tell.

And I do not think he will try any nats and flop like KDub did last year. You need to be all in or out.

Ridge...is this Chris Ridgeway? Kawasaki rider in the late 80s.


Sotos memory is pretty good but I was done in 92', and I rode mostly Hondas.

But my friends, Gary and Chad Doggett bought 4 Kawasakis every year and I used to jump on their machines in practices and at some events.

I never tried to be a dick. I usually gave back what dudes dished out. I ws nice to sondra, stu and the gang, I made a lot of friends...I did get into one or two helmet slap fights after motos, but I thought I was a nice kid overall. Smile

Soto, I actually remember your name. Probably saw it on your jersey in a morning practice or something.

I remember Chris as a Kawasaki rider. I had a Suzuki in 1990. I don't remember Chris on anything but Kawasaki.

Anyway, thanks for the memory bro...I didn't know I was "fast as fuck", (but thanks) I was usually hanging on for dear life while my eyes were trying to adjust to the speeds I was expected to run...Smile

It worked out sometimes and I have some finishes I'm proud of.

and also, what about 24-0 doesn't give you the right to sit out? ur jealous because if you had all that talent and money, you would've used it differently right?
