To nobody's surprise, JD Vance.

The VP debate will be epic.

Good choice "GO BUCKS!

That's one strike against him.  Hahaha

As we say in Michigan, no one from Michigan has a vacation home in Ohio.

Strategically it's probably a good choice. Ohio is an important battleground state.

Nice to see Trump picked someone who has served in the military. From Vances website.

JD was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio, a once flourishing American manufacturing town where Ohioans could live content, middle-class lives on single incomes. Over time, many of those good jobs disappeared, and JD’s family suffered the effects along with many others.

Turbulence was common at home and at school. His grandmother, called Mamaw, was his saving grace. Her tough love and discipline kept him on the straight and narrow. A “blue dog” Democrat, she owned 19 handguns and nurtured a deep Christian faith in herself and her family. She died in 2005, shortly after JD enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

JD went on to serve our nation in the Iraq War, then graduated from The Ohio State University and Yale Law School. He wrote a bestselling book, Hillbilly Elegy, which was turned into a Netflix movie. He also started a business dedicated to growing jobs and opportunity in the American heartland.

If he’s not another Dan Crenshaw.

Dude got jaded and sold out after a year. Seems like he felt he had given enough to his country and it was his turn to get back.

Crenshaw has been such a disappointment!!  I live in his congressional district but have no use for him now.  Washington has corrupted him big time.  It's sad.

When he voted for “Red Flag” laws against Veterans, I was done with him.

Vivek is Trump 2.0 , which I really like for 2028, but RFK would have brought in more of

the middle of road Dem voters . But JD is an excellent choice nonetheless

Channel surfing the tube, and sites has me seeing the usual crowd of pundits and politicians melting down, and having conniption fits over JD Vance, confirms that it's a good choice.

And the divisive rhetoric is ramping back up.

"He's a threat to this..."

"He's a threat to that..."

It's all they got.

Divisive bullshit.

In a perfect world, Vivek becomes Press Secretary and we sit back and watch the fun for four years. I wouldn't vote RFK for dog catcher much less VP.

He is intelligent, an articulate speaker, will embarrass kamala in debates, but he does nothing for me. I read his book as soon as it came out, found it interesting, and have followed his career since then. He is as unprincipled as they come.  Whichever way the wind blows. He's a walking talking public opinion poll. I can't get behind that. Also don't love candidates that decided sometime before ever having a real job that their life's ambition is to be a politician.

I'm not sure who I would have preferred to have because none of the potential candidates excited me though. From a purely pragmatic standpoint, Vance isn't bringing in any votes that Trump didn't already have so on the whole it doesn't make much sense to me.

That would Be fun. RFK I think should be in trumps cabinet in some way. He’s too good on specific issues to leave him out imo.

Seeing what happened with Crenshaw makes you really think the conspiracy theorists aren't wrong.

The theory goes that the deep state (CIA) basically gets dirt on everyone who comes to congress by using spies in honeypot schemes and when they eventually succumb to the temptations they are blackmailed and easily controllable. Crenshaw could have been the superstar of the conservative movement, but he pivoted big time and now most true conservatives despise him.

I knew nothing about Vance and still don’t know much , but I like what I hear so far. The dude actually has a clue about AI , which was shocking to find out, as none of these dim bulb politicians in any western democracy has shown me that . So that’s encouraging as there are going to be some very important decisions being made in the next couple years . He seems like one of the new breed of conservatives , and I think they are headed in the right direction …. If they can keep the right , hard religion , types in check , I think they will be very electable for a few cycles .

Vance needs more seasoning. His lack of experience and flip-flop on Trump may bite him. Admittedly there have been several presidents who converted former adversaries into allies, but Vance attacked Trump’s character, which hasn’t changed since 2016.

What the Republicans needed was a VP that could appease a percentage of democrats.  A non-vote can be very effective in swing states, and Vance might motivate those who would have otherwise stayed home  He will excel during the debates as long as he doesn’t try to mimic Trump’s tactics. There can be only one…

Your “real job” comment reminded me of when Ohio Senator Howard Metzenbaum accused John Glenn of never having a real job:

“I ask you to go with me, as I went the other day to a Veterans Hospital, and look those men with their mangled bodies in the eye and tell them they didn't hold a job.

You go with me to any Gold Star mother, and you look her in the eye and tell her that her son did not hold a job.

You go with me on Memorial Day coming up, and you stand on Arlington National Cemetery — where I have more friends than I like to remember — and you watch those waving flags, and you stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell me that those people didn't have a job.

I tell you, Howard Metzenbaum, you should be on your knees every day of your life thanking God that there were some men — SOME MEN — who held a job. And they required a dedication to purpose and a love of country and a dedication to duty that was more important than life itself.

And their self-sacrifice is what has made this country possible.”

Before he was announced as the VP choice, i had heard the name JD Vance but knew nothing of him. First impression is that he comes across as very intelligent.

When the head of the teamsters stands up at the convention and basically endorses Vance you know he is pro working middle class.

As for his remarks on Trump from 8 years ago, if I sat down and thought about it i bet i could find lots of things that I either changed my mind on or more then likely softened my stance on from when I was 31 years old to 39 years old.

Ok speech. I'm more of a straight ahead type of guy. The Ohio/Michigan thing was cringe. Stopping to encourage chanting was cringe.

When he did give straight talk it was very good but there wasn't enough of it. He should have given a more hard hitting speech rather then do a college pep rally.

Oh well. Don Juniors daughter was charming.

Post a reply to: VP pick.
