Well you clearly don't know me, or have read anything I post on here, I'm exactly the opposite... I can't stand listening to Dungey for that exact reason...

But, being a smoker doesn't give you a personality, nor does joking about it!

AND If you read my comment you would see that I just said I'm not happy if I'm his sponsors...

He's meant to be a professional athlete, one who should be doing everything he can to get back to the track much less, not sitting around, smoking and drinking latte...

Why do you assume that he was smoking? Many of the US pros dip snuff.

Here ya go. I guess you know more than Kim Wathen, M.S. Exercise Phys/Dietitian.

Will it Reduce Arm Pump? As stated above, caffeine use increases your risk of dehydration. Losing even small amounts of water from the body will impair performance and lead to poor race results. Becoming dehydrated will cause rider fatigue, which will likely cause or worsen arm pump. The only way to avoid arm pump caused by dehydration is to remain well hydrated. Do this by drinking plenty of water or sport drinks and minimize caffeine use.

If you don't have proof that he is "sitting around, smoking and drinking latte..." then you should probably just take it as something you saw on the internet. You can't believe everything you read or even know for sure who might be posting such info.

If you only read want you want to read.

From that same article;

Pros

* may increase endurance
* may increase strength of muscle contraction
* may enhance alertness
* makes exercise seem easier
* may decrease arm pump

Coffee is no friend to an athlete. It robs calcium from the bones and muscles (ligaments).

It sets up the flight or fight syndrome inside the body and comes at a cost. The rush you feel is the adrenal glands revving up the metabolism and dumping sugar into the bloodstream, in order to fight a toxin (120-mg caffeine).

Raw carrot & apple juice is MUCH better for your health, than toxic stimulants.

Caffeine enhances performance in endurance sports because it encourages your body to burn fat instead of glycogen. That's why marathoners are coffee freaks. It is a mild diuretic but dehydration isn't normally a problem for athletes that hydrate properly. It certainly doesn't cause arm pump. Some people have stomach cramp issues with it, but most don't.
im actually on board with you because when i was wrestling in high school i would drink 2 liters of diet moutain dew before an hour before a match and it seemed to work good for me because senior year i ended winning 6 or 7 times in overtime.

Caffeine also massively constricts your arteries and raises blood pressure... The adrenaline like side effects do have benefits for weight lifting and endurance sports but have since been put in the risky category by most physicians because of this fact...

Neverwasfastenuf... That's his twitter... he wrote it... Like I said, joke or not, his sponsors wouldn't be pumped...

So you think his sponsors should get tweaked because he likes a morning cappuccino from Starbucks?

That's asinine.

Haha... Touche!

I do agree the coffee seems to help performance, but once I found out about it constricting your arteries like that, I think i'd rather not!!!

Wow pointless. You don't think Roger would know if his rider throws a dip in? Hate to break it to some of you, but these guys aren't your kids and most are old enough to buy tobacco. So whats your beef? Obviously whatever he's been doing this year is working for him, until he crashed. The problems he seems to have seem mostly mental, and there can be nothing more therapeutic than a nice dip! lol

Correct it MAY. It WILL increase dehydration risks. You are right caffeine is GREAT for athletes. So are energy drinks. If I were you I would drink a cup of joe first thing in the morning and then slam an energy 10 or so minutes before your race, especially on hot days.

332,

If you did, you're a braver soul than I. As soon as one eyelid opens, all I can think about is a cup of coffee. If I had to choose between a glass of red wine at night or coffee in the morning, it would be a tough call...but the wine would have to go I'm afraid!

Take it as you will... But if i'm the boss of an Athlete who's getting paid loads to perform, I wanna know he's doing everything right...

Calories no... That's being stupid... There's a difference between eating some ice cream and Cigarettes that can have a negative physical impact... Different story... Did he say he was dipping or smoking, no he didn't, but it's not good either way...

All Im saying is lighten up a little bit and feel like you are knowing him better by this stuff, not degrading him for letting you in on some of the things going on in his daily things.... You all whine that some riders are too closed off to the Joe Public but then in return when you are let Inside the ropes all you guys do is criticize and say OFF WITH HIS HEAD!! Just be thankful there are things out there that the athletes can interract with fans withhout criticism.... Or so they thought

Hey, I didn't say anything like that...

I said that twitter is a public forum and I doubt his sponsors would be happy... Nothing wrong with that at all... And i've been on here a thousand times saying I wish the riders would be more real, but that doesn't antimacassar include misrepresenting your sponsors by what your sponsors might deem as less than desirable behaviour...

I'm the first person to call Dungey out for being robotic and the first to defend Chad when he calls someone out, but as I said, would his sponsors be happy?!?!

Am I criticizing? No, not really, just pointing something out... Do you really think Roger would be stoked to hear that, or are you just defending a common rider? I'm not stirring shit, and appreciate your insiders input... but surely you can see the point!!!
