Hey everyone new to the forum. I ride a 2005 RMZ 450. I want to get into motocross and would like to find a track around here to practice. I found a video on youtube, had to be So-Hum, a nice track to practice. If anyone knows of this track and has access I would love to meet you and am willing to pay money to practice there and sign a liability waiver. Anyways if anyone here is in Humboldt I am down to ride some trails. I am from Crescent City and know every trail and mountain road there, I don't know of many places to ride with the exception of Mt. Baldy. I am looking for some jumps to practice on it has been a while. Thanks.

I'm in Humboldt and the only tracks I've heard are one in Mckinleyville on green diamond land with jumps made of shovels and another one of the same type at the Ferndale river bottom. My old neighbor has some freestyle ramps at his parents property in Fieldbrook, but he's rarely in town. But word to the wise this is a real bad time of year to be exploring trails in the SoHum hills if you catch my drift....

Ya I know. I have a decent idea where to stay away from and where to ride and also carry when out in the hills riding or not.

We are pretty limited up here. Couple good tracks that are invite only and don't always get ridden. Baldy up in Mck is pretty damn fun when the dirt is moist, that's the first three pics. River bar can be fun at times to.

Im currently working with Green Diamond to try and lease some land in Mckinleyville and hopefully get a real track here soon.

Another county supervisor is working with green diamond to get 40 acres in blue lake for us to have a track at. Dunno how far he's getting though.

Shoot me a text and I'll clue you in a little more

I remember racing an arenacross track in Ukiah in the early to mid 2000s that was in the middle of the oval speedway right off the 101. It had legit big jumps, rhythm sections, and whoops. My dad and I would travel up from San Ramon everytime they raced there, always had a great turnout and full gates. Pretty good purses that attracted big names from Oregon alway the way to SoCal, not sure when they quit racing there but it was one of my favorite tracks growing up.

Can anyone explain how to get to the area to ride at Baldy if it's still ok to ride there? I'm in Eureka and sick of riding Ferndale riverbar. Thanks.

Where is that spot you're riding in the YouTube link?

They build a track at the fairgrounds in Eureka and have a race coming up the 26th I think? But the last one thay had was a weak track, it also had to cater to quads and utvs as well so that says why it was not challenging. I also heard that they are in the process of putting one by the Bear River Casino.

Funny this threads pops up today. I’m heading into a meeting right now to try and finalize a lease for 40 acres in Loleta. Check out https://instagram.com/p/BkoFlt5goIu/

Hopefully in about 2 hours I’ll have the green light!

Beautiful country up there for a track somewhere.

Sure is. I was stationed there in the coast guard from 98-04. We used to ride the fire roads on the east side of town behind redwood acres raceway. Seemed those trails went back there forever and opened up into a few open areas with some
Decent jumps.

Miss me some Porter Street BBQ!

We use to ride back there all the time as kids. Go clear from elk river to redwood acres. They put a stop to all of that now though.

Is the area at Baldy accessible for someone from eureka or do you have to ride there from a house somewhere in mckinleyville? Just got a new bike and getting back into riding and Ferndale is so torn up now. Or if you guys know of any other areas to ride. Sure miss the old days of being able to ride elk River and freshwater

There are a ton of entrances to baldy. The easiest would be to park off Murray Rd. Here is a screen shot of the track with gps coordinates. It’s not worth riding until it rains though.

Ferndale river bar will be good again once it rains, I’ll be working the sand track again with my skid steer.

I’m meeting army Corp about our road we’ll need to build into the track we’re starting in Loleta on Wednesday at 10, then another tribal meeting the next Tuesday. Hopefully have the track up and going around mid October.

Thanks for the info about Baldy. Have to go check it out sometime soon. And that's awesome you take your skid steer to Ferndale, that will be nice. Keep us posted on the loleta progress.

Safe to park your rig off of Murray for a few hours of riding?

I’m lucky enough that I just ride from my house so I haven’t parked there in years, but I think you’ll be fine.

You gonna race redwood acres this weekend, tracks pretty limited but it’s still a fun time on a bike.

I went by yesterday while they were building it. Pretty tame but looks better than the last layout they had. I'm debating on racing it.

That's nice. Not gonna race this one, but maybe next season. Been a long time since I've raced mx, and just got this bike broke in so need more seat time before I get back out there. Gonna take my son up to watch them though. You racing?

I ended up racing last weekend, track was super fun actually. I left with a concussion, bruised ribs, 2 broken hands, and a black eye. But I'll be back for the next race, they are talking about doing another race and some practices before the rain hits us.

In grew up in eureka in the 80s and 90s. Did some racing but just local, with a n annual trip to washougal and Hangtown, gold beach and Rosemary. There used to be Phillipsville track down on the south fork eel. Was an awesome outdoor track. But 95% of our writing was on all those trails they go from behind Redwood acres all the way out to Maple Creek and blue Lake,  Hell, you can go from Redwood acres and come all the way out in Bridgeville by Ruth Lake if you want.  I wish they had OnX Maps back then. Great place to grow up  But unless you wanted to continue growing weed, you pretty much left that town.  Tons of riding, but the hippies really cracked down on the dirtbikes. Favorite spot of ours to go to Samoa dunes and rip.

I’m not sure if you guys are familiar with Dana Creech, but I’ve known him since we were five years old. He’s born and raised in Eureka. He was one class behind me so class of 2000 Eureka high. He’s the owner of area 52 out towards Redding….. Where all the big boys go to send 200 foot whips.
It’s 109 in Roseville today boy I can go for some 60° Humboldt weather

That was phillipsville track. It was running strong in the mid 90s but got shut down. I left tumble county and I’m now in Placer county, Tracks absolutely everywhere here which is great  Marysville has 3 separate private facilities Riverfront, E-street, and MMX. Plus a hidden public gem off the feather river. Then you got Hangtown/Prarie city, Mammoth Bar, Dixon, In too many OHV riding spots to name.
But I sure miss 50-70 weather. SoHum gets warmer but I miss those 61 degree summer days in Eureka. It was a great place to grow up where cops wouldn’t pull you over as a teenager riding on the roads with your dirtbike
