Lol...the wife's been substituting avocado for the mayo or butter on the sourdough and I ain't complaining.  Edit  I prefer the avocado mushed up not chunky.Wink

Thick bacon for sure. I pan fried because I was having eggs the next morning. It's illegal to cook eggs in anything but bacon grease.

Maybe so. Just start poking around locally and watching for people with hives. There should be groups of beekeepers around even at the hobby level. We've got a dozen or so in our back 40. They're pretty cool.

Speaking of bread, sourdough while one of my favorite breads is just acceptable on a BLT. However, if you give me a BLT and the words "artisanal bread" comes out of your mouth you're gunna see these hands.  Laughing

Bread is just the delivery vehicle in the whole BLT equation and should never take away from the stars of the show. You should taste in order the bacon, tomato, mayo, lettuce and finally the bread. If you finish your BLT and the first thing out of your mouth is "Man that bread was good." you did it wrong.

Toasting the bread is a must.

I'm not the biggest tomato fan but I love fried green tomatoes.  I grow around 800 tomato plants in a high tunnel and I have them in 4 beds spaced about 1 month apart for 3 months to have them ripe at different times. I'm eating fried green tomatoes from June to October.  I'm amazed that I have not seen anyone mention Jiffy Mix.  That's the only way I do it.

First the tomato. I like a nice medium to large green tomato from the yellow section, Dixie Gold or Carolina Gold.  They seem to firm up consistently all the way through.  Slice, roll and powder them in Jiffy brand sweet cornbread mix.  Fry them in butter until they look burned.  The Jiffy mix kind of caramelizes and they taste like candy.  It is hard to find a consistent bacon anymore.  So with the bacon I lightly toss in flour before frying.  Just light flour then fry it the same, no oil or grease.  The cheese is swiss slices, I prefer deli or Kroger premium select that isn't plastic wrapped.  The bread is regular white bread toasted and both slices buttered with a Miracle Whip.  Lettuce, I also grow.  I prefer butter crunch but cold iceberg from the fridge is great.

It goes like this.  Toast with Miracle Whip, tomato, bacon, swiss cheese, chilled iceberg lettuce, toast with Miracle Whip. Its like candy.  I know what you are thinking about the white bread but the bread is not the star and it is actually the best with just toasted white bread.

Jiffy mix is my go to for fried yellow squash as well.  To me if I don't use Jiffy mix it just tastes plain.

I've had toasted and not toasted. Toasting doesn't do anything for me. I also use sourdough because it's got the biggest slices. More B, more L and more T. Go big or go home.

Did you just say that?  Sammiches are serious business.  From the late night, haven't been to the store and all I got is the emergency potted meat all the way to the king of all sandwiches...The HAMBURGER.  Bread and meat or dressed to the nines...sandwiches are life.Cool

Actually, I prefer the bread grilled ...either with butter or just a touch of mayo...makes for a nice crunch on the bread while the insides stay soft.

After reading that My mind is set. Waiting for the missus to get home and then I'll be off for some shopping. BLT door stoppers are on the menu.

"Bread is just the delivery vehicle" ...good one.
