Took my old ass down to Cathy's Creek yesterday afternoon after work. Did some laps in the 92 degree heat. This was where i raced my last race in 2000. Had not been back since. I was amazingly slow compared to the old days. Haha!! Still a fun time and i need to get back down when they have done some prep. Hard pack and lots of ruts from saturdays race.
I used to like that track.
Raced all the time down there from 1998-2000, then i sold my bikes. 125B back then. I felt like a fish out of water yesterday down there.
Haven’t been there since about 2001. Is the uphill triple after the finish still doable?
It is, but my other ball wouldnt drop to do it again haha!! Used to hit it on my 125. I didnt even attempt it yesterday on my 250f.

Wisdom!
Use to race there on 85s back in the day really cool elevation changes on that track.
That dry red dusty clay is about what everything looks like around here at the moment.
Haha completely understandable
Last time I was there was for the 1996 LL regional.
Good chance i was there as well. I only live 34 miles from the track. That one, 226MX, Silver Creek, and Polk Co MX were my regular stops.
Built it in 1994.
I can tell you where the bodies, and drain pipes are buried..
It's called "mortgagitis".
Happens to the best of them.
looks tiny
Is Gaston still open? Kinda sorta looks similar.
That's a throw back, I haven't been there in ages. I'm glad they're still around!
It is a .6 mile track that flows well, with a lot of elevation changes as mentioned. It is also a wide track. Fully lit for night racing too. I thought sure it was over a mile til i checked my litpro afterwards.
Yes! Closed for a short time, then my cousin and a buddy went in together and bought it. Later on, my cousin sold his share. Now my buddy owns Cathy's creek and the new 221 MX , a few miles away.
Never raced at Gaston. But i havent heard anything about it being open recently. Top Gun MX , in Iron Station, NC is open again now. That used to be a stop for us a few times a year as well.
FYI, Lost Valley Motorsports isn't too far from that area in Connelly Springs he has a killer hare scramble loop and some turn tracks, he has a MX track but he only preps and opens it a handful of times a year. Has a couple off-road races a year there and is one of the biggest turnouts for the NCHSA series.
Also Full Gas Offroad series is doing a GP race at 221MX August 17th. Two 30 minute motos with usually a mix of grass track/woods/mx track and these guys always put together an awesome course.
Pit Row
221 is a WFO track ! I havent ridden it yet, but i need to. They have open practice day before race usually. Some fast sections. Should be a great place for a GP. Man, i would die if i had to ride MX for 30 minutes nowadays. HAHA!
Not too many may remember 226MX, but I went to Todd Bennick (Daxton's dad) motocross school there. Silver Creek and Polk County were awesome too, and I really liked Montrose MX out east. Good memories.
Yep, i know Todd well. Dax's former mechanic put a fresh top end in my YZ last fall. I live in Hendersonville. Won quite a few C-class races at 226 back in the day. I see you are in Etowah. I live in Hendersonville. If you still ride, hit me up. Got a track at the house in Zirconia. We get together and ride after work on Wednesdays usually. .6 Mile AX style with turn track section built in.
Oh I remember. in fact i was just in the area of 226mx just the other day. I sure do wish the track was still there. in fact the old owners are no longer there have move from there and last i heard they have horses out there now.
I delivered 44k of gaterade from atl to Longs,sc. by Myrtle beach. Then narrow back rds to Lumberton ,NC. Pu at Quickie manufacturing not so quick. A little hot today especially with the ac working like crap.
Was it open for practice or something?
No, a buddy of mine I grew up racing with owns it. We just went down to ride that evening. First time I have taken him up on the offer to come down during the week.
