1980 CRs - one of the best looking model years, IMO. They just looked fast sitting still.

High cost of living is the outcome of the demand for a high standard of living.  Infrastructure, health care, education, reliable agriculture, quality housing, modern transport etc are not cheap.  You can’t lower the cost of living without impacting those.

Absolutely, but the current costs of most if not all of these things are way out of control compared to other developed nations. Take healthcare for example…

Yep, ex-wife's cousin was a day one hire at that plant.

I asked him back in October why they only built the CR250 for one year in Ohio.  He said Honda figured out there was a LOT more money in building Accords pretty quickly.Laughing  Smart guys, those Japanese.  Much easier when you don't have to retool the line every year AND they sold a few more Accords each year than they did dirt bikes.

Could be why 75% of the night time advertising on the legacy TV networks is sponsored by Big Pharma.

Here's list of current drugs being advertised.  Ask yourself when was the last time you saw one of these commercials.  And then ask yourself "If I NEED a drug, why are they having to ADVERTISE it to me?"Cool

Should not be legal to advertise them.  I thought Dr.s were not supposed to reward patients with a prescription for the drugs they ask for. Isn't that   Drug seeking .

Being hurt with Health insurance , and then being hurt without insurance showed me a window into how messed up the system is. Insurance co's only pay a % of a bill, so then You get Bills raised up so that the Dr.s get paid what they need to be paid. And it just goes crazy from there.

A few years back I was due for a checkup and between insurance carriers.  I paid out of wallet for the checkup.  Doctor visit was $150.  Labs were $200.  Last year I got my Explanation of Benefits from BCBS after my annual.  Doctor was up a little to $200 but they paid $150.  Labs were $1650.  They paid $200.  It's all just bean counters moving the shells around on a desk.  The kicker is that I didn't owe anything out of pocket because it was an annual physical.  If it had been a real doctor visit for illness I'd have had to kick in $1500 out of pocket to satisfy my deductible.  Ridiculous.

I've been hoping that Can-am would get back into making Dirtbikes. Artic Cat had a 450 snow bike they were developing at one point.

The US and Canadian  SXS's and ATV's might be selling well, and be high performance. But the Japanese versions are built to last and have fewer reliability issues than any of the North American made brands. For whatever reason the Japanese brands have decided not to build SXS's that are on the same level performance wise. They have some solid offerings. But nothing in the same class as those 30K SXS's . Rumor is that Kawasaki will have a supercharged Teryx . That might push it into the same class as the Pro XP and X3. But Can-am has their Maverick R with a 7 speed dual clutch trans and 200 HP, and a great chassis.  The Japanese brands do not have anything close when stock. 112 HP YXZ , similar for the Talon.  And on just about every forum for those 30K 40 50K Sxs's You'll see many people say that they wish that Honda ,Yamaha or Kawasaki would make something with Suspension and power on par with the Polaris and Can-am's . Many say that if there was a similar class machine that was from one of those brands they would jump on it.

I don't know if the Japanese are not making anything  in that class because its so hard to make something that is not going to break every other ride. That has that power and suspension , with random guys beating the crap out of them.  Or maybe they want to stay conservative after Honda had their trouble with 3 wheelers and Yamaha with the Rhino. But for whatever reason, Polaris and Can-am , Speed SXS to a degree now, are just competing against each other.  I have a Wildcat XX and its under rated . Super strong and OK power. Ahead of its time. But without a turbo, people just don't consider it like they do the SXS's with big HP numbers and a payment plan with factory warranty and full coverage insurance.

A lot of words to pretty much say, those machines that are North American brands, do not have any competition from anybody but each other right now.

I was hoping Alta was going to be around for  a longtime.  And I do hope that there is a US built MX bike in the future. I think that an Electric  MX bike might be easier to build in the US than a Gas powered bike. So many fewer parts to cast, machine , etc. I could see the electric MX bike market become like the bicycle market .

The artic 450 was just a sherco with black plastic.

I knew it was not a full on AC bike. The rumor at the time was that they were going to develop a bike that was more of their own and were using the one they had for prototyping.

They Use Japanese engines in a lot of their stuff. My SXS has a Yamaha engine but its a Textron/Arctic Cat Wildcat XX .

Some of the snowmobiles use a Yamaha engine similar to the one in my SXS , and AC develops the chassis and Yamaha the engine.  I'm not totally sure , but I think that some of the Yamaha snowmobiles have been AC chassis designs too.

I had heard that they were working on the bike in a similar way. They had 2 ways they were thinking of going. Using a bike that existed or  developing one and using the engine from a bike that already was being built by another brand.

Some of their ATV's have used Suzuki drivetrain's and engines too.
