Single vs Double ring piston

I would imagine a 2 ring does make more power because theoretically it should have more compression.

I ,don't think that has to do with cat failure.

I like single cause it revs faster/easier? Kind of YZ85 vs KX85.

Think I liked better on the YZ was when my kid couldn't start it after 2 kicks I knew it was rebuild time, KX was different

Seemed  all the specialty race pistons were made with single rings for some reason.

Back in the early 80 I raced a 125 and 250 as a local pro. Pro circuit did my porting and I ran there pipes. I tried both 2 ring and single pistons rings on my bikes. I could not tell the difference between two. I would be willing to bet that there are only a couple of riders in the world that could tell the difference if were not told which bike had a single or double ring piston. 
An interesting fact, Most riders will do the fastest average lap times over a moto with a fairly stock bike vers a full race high hp 2 Stroke my self included back in the day. The only reason I had my bikes made to be as fast as possible was for the start. The easiest way to pass 39 riders is to get the hole shot! 

Also if you've the possibility, use ceramic bearings. They don't wear as fast, and they come faster up to their speed.
