If someone came into your yard and cut down an old tree you liked, wouldn't you be angry and sad? Ever feel bad when your dog or cat died? Come on. I know you're just trying to play devil's advocate here, but lets be serious. I'm a mountain biker and sometimes hiker. I do a lot of volunteer trail work, and I love being in the woods, however, I have never felt compelled to stop and mourn a fallen oak tree.

Everybody is entitled to their believes, they are also free to express themselves however they choose (within the letter of the law, of course). Likewise, I'm entitled to express my opinion, which I will now:

I don't think they're mourning a tree that just fell down, I think they're mourning many trees that have been mowed down in a clear-cut. You can't tell me that if you were riding thorugh one of the trails you work on and came upon a big ugly clear-cut, you wouldn't be upset- maybe a mixture of anger and sadness? The difference in your reaction and that of the Earth-first types is one of degree and not kind. They just feel it more. Do you really feel your wife or girlfriend is stupid if she cries during a sad scene in a movie? Probably not. And the difference is that these people in the woods are crying over a real event, not some imaginary movie.


Saying you can't understand such emotions is okay, but calling them stupid just a thoughtless opinion that may reflect emotional maturity.

I wonder if the people in that video realized that everything they have is a result of cutting trees down.....the money they purchased the clothes with was made with wood. the clothing they are wearing at some point was made using energy provided by.....trees...

yeah except paper money isn't cellulose wood paper made from trees, it's rag paper which is like cotton or linen, but it's true alot of luxuries they enjoy are direct result of tree murder lol
