Now, if that can happen with just those circumstances to deal with, then I think jumping a 75' triple out of a corner can probably cause some more damage. My point is, regardless of what you are doing on a motorcycle or how tame the terrain is, people are still going to crash and get hurt.
So you think no one should do anything if there is an obvious problem?

The last time I saw a one lap foot race was at the Denver AX a couple of years ago. The guy who got the holeshot face planted in the whoops. I'm not making this up.

I got into the sport in '93, and I can't ever remember so many riders getting injured like they have the the past few years. You people want this sport to grow, but it never will if half the stars are on the sidelines and the races put non riders to sleep.
So you got into the sport in 93 and feel pretty confident about commenting on how the tracks were in the 80s. Wow, you even quote David Bailey, "as far as statistics go". Please show us David's quote, and while you're at it you might as well look up his source for those statistics. I know David pretty well and respect what he has to say, but I can tell you that the tracks were more dangerous back then. That's not to say that I don't think the tracks need to be toned down. The problem is that the racers today would piss and moan if the promoters made the tracks easier.

As for level of progression, I would say that the bikes advanced much further in the early years of the sport than they do nowadays. Compare a bike from early seventies to an early eighties model, then compare an early eighties to an early nineties, then jump all the way from early nineties to the present and tell me which era progressed most rapidly.

The promoters are giving the riders and the fans exactly what they want, including last Saturday night. They modified that jump exactly as Reed asked them to. Villopoto was not going to clear that thing, even if it was another foot lower.

I don't think he lost his foot. In a few frames it looks like there is not foot in his pant leg, but then it seems to appear again. The force that pulled off his boot probably pulled his pant leg down hiding his foot.
