Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you like the video. We're all the same at different levels. We like to ride dirt bikes with buddies, talk crap to each other and have fun. That's pretty much how we all started doing it. As an out of shape guy who doesn't really ride anymore, it's nice of Marvin to try to get me to the track and wanting to ride with me. The guy could still be competitive racing and he spent a wednesday riding a vet track with me and was loving it. Pretty amazing how much he loves to ride still, he's like a 7 year old kid on a PW. He kept saying, let's go ride when I was taking a water, lungs & arm pump break. haha

It was great seeing both you and Marvin at Cahuilla DV12! And out on the Vet Track where we old guys ride!

You gotta love DV. He's got enough money and time to do whatever the hell he wants to do. And what does he do? Buy old two strokes and restore them, ride with his buddies, watch the races, offer his help with coaching, share his unfiltered opinion on Pulp, and buy used tires and gear off ebay or Fb. He's an amazing character in our sport and the fact that he still comes on here is as surprising as it is awesome. Ride on DV!

I agree with your sentiment 100% but to be fair....US pump gas is not the same as Euro Pump gas. DV is pumping the highest octane fuel available at that particular gas station and it's still lower than the lowest octane fuel available in Europe. I know there are some minor differences in how octane numbers are calculated but still, Euro fuel standards are higher.
Then factor in the weight of the average US vet rider and things can start getting sketchy on a high revving 2-stroke Laughing.

But generally speaking...you're right...and it's even more ridiculous when you consider how many actually race!

I'm on the race gas side of things, but a comparison between Europe and USA octane ratings at the pump is not as simple as putting the numbers side by side.

In the USA octane rating at the pump is determined by the formula:    (RON+MON) / 2

In Europe and most of the world, it is simply the RON value.

RON is Reasearch Octane Number.   It is derived by chemical analysis and mathematical methods.
MON is Motor Octane Number. It is derived from a standardized engine.

RON and MON are different for each fuel, with (as I understand it) RON typically having a higher number for the same fuel compared to MON.

I'm not sticking up for pump gas here..  I run some race gas in my two strokes.

Here is a good explanation of the difference between the fuels.

Europe vs the States

In Europe, gas stations describe different types of gasoline based on their RON rating. It is typical to have 100, 99, 98, 97 or 95 RON with prices varying accordingly. In the States the descriptions look a lot like RON, but they are not.

Pump gas

In the United States gas stations describe the types of gasoline based on the Pump Octane Number (PON). That number is the average between RON and MON. This causes many problems.

If a fuel is 98 RON then it will be 93 PON -> 93 PUMP
If a fuel is 95 RON and 87 MON then it will be 91 PON -> 91 PUMP

Nice vids by the way!

I think I could have run with you guys on your warmup lap, but that's about it.

I had the pleasure of Marv blasting by me at Glen Helen back in Feb.

Does anyone care to compile the statistics and calculate which one had a more successful career in the US. Marv or DV?

Marv has more runner up finishes in the standings and has a 250 SX East title.
