and people think I am kidding when I say shit like "be prepared to fight if you want to watch along the fence at GH"

I've seen it a few times.
Stupid idiots show up, rope off a 10x10 or 10x20 area and claim it as their own, and if you venture anywhere near or into it, be ready to throw down.

At least GH stopped allowing people to set up EZ-Up's trackside....that was even worse

The guy with the backpack obviously used all caps. His friend, no shirt #1, mis-spelled a single word in one of his post and hat guy is determined to put the beat down on him, showing him his proper spelling and grammatical skills. Most of the others have no clue what they are doing and are just jumping in because they have no clue what is actually taking place on the other side of the fence from them.

Don't be scared to show up at the race, your post counts show you are well trained in the art of self defense!
Okay, I actually laughed at that. Smile

My family and I have sat along the fences for the last 6 or 7 years at GH. I have seen a few fights, that happens when you have a few punks, beer, hot weather, and half dressed women. It seems like they have increased security and police the last few years, and the fighting hasn't been happening as much.If you don't fell safe you can always go to bingo night instead.

Most bros are nothing more than refined rednecks, and I say that loosely(refined/redneck). One of the reasons I moved from the IE when I was a kid was because of the rednecks. Bros are morphing into Affliction Wearing Faux Hawk sporting guido's.

Flair, Do you hate GH or what?

So your solution is "go to bingo night instead" rather than have proper security, keeping people from pretending to "own" trackside real estate and wanting to watch a motocross race from various locations without having to be concerned for my safety.

Really?

Been to National's all over the US, and believe me when I say that the crowd control and situation at GH is unique.

Amazing, only in Southern California, I guess, is the attitude of "if you're concerned about your safety as a spectator at a professional MX race, maybe you should go to bingo."

Yes and I maintain there is more Hillbilly's in the Inland Empire then anywhere in the USA.

And Dave I never felt unsafe at Glen Helen and security is much better these day's.

Well, I never said I felt unsafe, that other guy did.
Nevertheless, his solution to anyone who might feel unsafe is to just go to bingo instead.

So if a family doesn't feel safe at GH with their kids around a bunch of drunken brawling flatbillers, they never should have been there in the first place, they should have been at bingo.

Have you ever even been to Glen Helen? What's amazing is you're trying to put this out there like it is unique to GH.

One of my first trips to Mt. Morris in the mid 90s there was a fight that last over a half hour involving a bunch of rednecks who had brought their own kegs to the race. I called Rita Coombs after the race and she was amazed to hear that as it was not track policy. The next year there were no kegs and I didn't see any fights.

That having been said drunken assholes are found everywhere.....I think the guy filming the fight is a big of wanker as the jerks fighting.......a race is going on and he's more interested in fliming the fight than watching the races.

GuyB,
If you like, you can pick a thread that went wrong and I will write a script for the boys to play out at the GP this year. Just off the top of my head I see a strong ending with maybe 500guy choking out Brooks and demanding he leave GH forever! If LB is not game, we can just find a fan that showed up at the track to actually watch the race, any fan, preferably one who is new and not familiar with everything moto. That way 500guys' anger will be real. We might even be able to find one of those “believe the hype" shirts to put on him before we start so everybody will hate him. I know we can get every SX only rider, JS, Lil' hanny and others to stand on the sidelines to anger the rest of the group. If given the opportunity, I know one of the guys would be willing to end a life! I will see if Reed is busy!

All in fun of course...................

GH has actually been a shithole for fans and racers/teams alike. anybody that sez it isn't is a dumbshit. with that i must say i love watching races there and always have a good time with good people. but i am not yer typical fan. but it is shithole with minimal cash spent to remedy whatever. unless luongo toss's all his rules aside felkamp's are gonna take it up the ass to hold this race.

The nats used to be wild and lawless.

Unadilla- The wild, chanting, crowd passing around blowup dolls and the naked guy looping out drunk and burning the tire off of his bike come to mind....

Broome Tioga- Crazy hill people burning everything in sight, cops went up the hill....came back down all shot up from potato launchers with shit jammed in the exhaust. Beer bottle fights, random band just setting up and playing, and rolling mules. Probably Broome had some of the wildest stuff I've seen.

Mt. Morris had some wild ones too....nothing specific stands out in my mind, although that could be because I was too busy doing keg stands with the rest of the patrons.

Really though, those were saturday nights...it always seemed much calmer during the races...can't say I've seen any multiple person brawls while the races were going on.

Back in the 70's I went to Trans-AMA's, Nationals, Flat-Track Nationals etc. I don't remember a single problem like that. Individual arguement's would break out but usually folks would break them up, not jump in. Everybody was so happy to get a chance to see the races. Course, back then the crowds were 90% hard core racing fans.

I'm not a "bro" by any means, I guess maybe I'm just used to being around this stuff, so it really doesn't bother me.

I usually watch the race from different spots and move around a lot so, when some drunk fool gets all uptight over his "spot", I just move on.... I would agree that, GH isn't the best for the family, but what national is?

I think when the racing is good or someone is doing some amazing shit out on the track 90 percent of the crowd would call themselves hardcore fans. When the racing isnt good or when they are practicing it seems like most of em dont give a shit. Thats why i liked when you had to race to qualify it kept peoples attention. Now all you have to do is run a quick lap and your in.
