I agree with the noise thing - I also thought some of those big industrial parks (with many utilities already plowed in) would also work. That's one of those "Hey there city officials - some rent money!" deals - it's amazing how cash suddenly makes friends when your dealing with government.

We sometimes go to SD via LaCrosse - never seen the track you speak of. I'll have to ask the crowd at www.wisconsinmx.com about that one!

Hey Lee - do you know the place?

I don't think Honda Hills is still open. The sign is still there in the tress along the interstate, visible in the fall and winter when the leaves fall, but I haven't heard of much riding there recently, and it's been years since I heard of them racing.

Sadly, Honda Hills closed down in 2005.

Little bit of highway trivia - when Honda Hills ran Trans-Ams back in the 70s, they actually ran an exit and entrance off the interstate so the track traffic could be managed. 17,000 people at the event - and the parking area was cleared in under 4 hours. Only two ways out, typical country road - one exit to I-70 and the other way to Newark/Zanesville.

Now THAT'S a sign I'd like to see while driving the Interstate: "Motocross - This Exit"

There is also a nice little supercrossy track on the S side of I-90 just east of La Crosse, WI.

I've always thought putting tracks right next to interstates made a lot of sense - no noise complaints with 18 wheelers flying by at 70 mph.

Agree with the original poster - that area E of Sioux Falls is begging for a track. Video game type terrain.
Just found out the track by LaCrosse is a private deal - so don't sneak in there.....unless you wanna get shot at or something.

FYI: The guys who run CMJ MX (just North of the Hixton, WI exit along the West side of I-94) run a real nice stadium series late season in SE WI at a couple different fairgrounds events. I thought maybe the LaCrosse track might have had a connenction - not.

In 2003 I was driving to Omaha and I noticed a track right off of I-80 near Norfolk Nebraska. Looked fun.
You may be thinking of North Platte, Nebraska. They had a track literally right on I-80, on the south side. Norfolk is about 100 miles north of I-80.

I don't think North Platte races anymore, but they had a good series going for years, the CMC (Cornhusker Motocross Circuit) with a track in McCook, NE that has hosted Ponca qualifiers for years.

Unless they moved it, it was about 10 minutes off the freeway the last time I was there in 2003. I know Riverview MX, which closed, is right off of 75 near Calhoun.

Abbott Motocross Park is easily viewable from I-80 that runs through Lincoln, Nebraska. Track is about 500 feet south of the interstate. Real sweet facility. Check out pictures of the track on facebook by searching "Abbott Motocross Park"

This video is Cuerdon Park, a National championship track that was right beside M6 motorway nr Preston, Lancashire, England.
You used to get people stopping on hard shoulder of motorway, pretending they had broken down, so they could watch some of the racing.
Sadly a few years ago they extended M65 motorway and the intersection with the M6 used up most of the tracks land!
There's a second part to video, guess Youtube will take you to the link.
