That show could be decent too, but at Indy that thing was like 2 minutes long, they spent 30 minutes setting up for it seemed like, it was really lame there!

Go easy on the Godfather. Not only is he the inventor of the freestyle

movement - he was an active participant in the AMA National Motocross scene for

many a season. He's earned his stripes.

He's still super-cool, an accomplished artist and just seems like a real good guy.

The bottom line on the halftime freestyle show - is that a majority of the Supercross

fans, totally seem to dig it.

And if Metzger wants - or needs to throw a bike around to pay the rent, good on him.

I was a fan back in the day! I loved watching him race Redbud and Crusty demons was ahead of it's time! Greatest freestyle vid yet in my opinion.

I never have and never will support the MM because of the retarded statements and coke head attitude they used to show at X Games. At least Metz is still riding to pay the bills and not living off some circus image and selling t-shirts to 12 year olds around the world.

im not a fan of the MM but you gotta admit they did it right. Started a DGAF attitude company, sold out in the worst way, and now get to ride everyday just for the fun of it.

I talked to metz at a worcs race and he straight up told me he was broke. He said he spent it on partying and girls. He said he partied like a rock star and spent money like he was one. Bought lots of homes which he lost to ex's. He was a super cool guy and straight up.

Metz is a badass and fearless on a bike. Look back at the stuff he has done, X Games, Gravity Games, Flipping Caesar's palace, and much much more. He has broken every bone in his body and his back a couple times. Those hospital bills and insurance bills can't be cheap. I highly doubt Metz is even close to out of money. He rides and puts on a show cause he loves it. The amount of risk he takes at those half time shows isn't worth the couple grand he gets. But to him it's probably not about the money and more about entertaining the crowd.

Obviously he needs the gig, but I think its awesome that Metz got the call to do it. He's still a big name in the sport, and can still ride good too.

haha well that is true but it is what it is. Same thing when all the independent "Punk Rock" record labels of the 90's started selling off half of their companies to major labels for multi millions. They abandon all of the people who supported them from the beginning "for the right reasons" Because they were core independent companies. Not some hard core looking label for corporate america to hide behind......just erks me a little.

I like Mez and Deegan, but like most business successes, Deegan got lucky, but earned it, just the same.
Of course I also believe Luck is spelled HARD WORK, to some degree.

You ask most successful people if they ever thought they'd make a dime, and most will tell you, they never thought they'd ever be able to pay the bills.

I believe Deegans idea, while similar, hit at the right time, the right area, he sold out to the Malls and stores at the right time, and from the beginning he learned quickly how to be a business man, and use his name to push it forward.

As many hate him, I give the guy a great big thumbs up and congrats, he succeeded when everyone wanted him to fail.

After that, Deegan, and Metzger are cool as shit away from the bike and Track.
You'd be surprised how humble, grateful and truly decent guys they are.
If you have ever talked to them in person, you'd agree.

And Now, both are Family men supporting their families the best way they can with what they are given.

That in itself, makes them a success. Regardless of the money.

Bartz, IMO, I'm not buying your story about the Exes.

I have no reason to lie. I could care less ether way. I didnt buy his story ether but thats what he told me. It was at the mesquite nv worcs race like 3 years ago. He had a new tundra with two KTM's on it. Said the Truck and the gas was borrowed from his current gf.

I like Metz it just seems like he is working for the man now. Not that i would not do it if I had the skills and opportunity. I am willing to bet the riders have less input in the show than we think they do. Just seems like a guy that has had his level of success would at least be joining the Nitro Circus or something?

The nitro circuis? so thats where aging top freestyle riders go to wind down their careers?

I saw a show on Metz on fuel and that dude has done a lot in his lifetime. I can't believe anyone would see anything negative in him riding a dirtbike infront of tens of thousands of fans to make some cash...He's probably making more doing a 2 minute show than most of the riders gambling at a shot of making a living at racing.

I got to meet him at his house for a new years eve party a year ago, and as others said, super cool and down to earth guy. I was blown away with how nice and friendly he is.

Metz is and will always be a showman. He is awesome with his fans, is always available for fans and will put on a show anytime he has a bike with him. I've known or interacted with him off and on since he was touring local mx in a black molester van. His attitude hasn't changed in 15+ years. As for the halftime show, more ooh's and ahh's come in those 15 min than any other break time show for SX. Those guys throw down for setting up and hitting a ramp on que in front of thousands of people. Yes its like clockwork but how would you like to roll into a stadium packed and hit a ramp full speed without warmups?

Metz is the godfather for a reason and bleeds moto. Nothing more, nothing less. No reason to dog anything he has done or will do.
