this came through my mind when i heard about jesse masterpool..
i mean, look at riders that are critically injured (james marshall, masterpool, craig, fonseca, bailey, my good buddy justin eubanks, and lots of others)
also Jason Ciarletta, RIP (i also think an 11 year old Trevor Fox just passed away)
Do you think it's worth it? Family and Health is more important that championships any day. i guess thats the risk of racing nowdays. i hate to bring up negativity, but its a real thing. scary thing.

Motocross is a dangerous Sport/Hobby. Shit happens.
Seeing something like that up close makes you want to hang it up...and I have been close to death before lifeflight etc etc...and came back and love it.
It's not me I worry about...it's those close to me who would be hurt.
Seeing Jesse's younger brother crying hysterically because his big brother is motionless without a heartbeat hits you hard. seeing his mom crying uncontrollably hits you hard...
As a bystander, it was hard not to tear up.

The risk to reward ratio in motocross is retarded. I had a blast growing up racing but now think it should be considered child abuse for a parent to let their kid out on an MX track.
I've been to tracks before where Adam C was practicing in Fla and it was the same feeling. These are just kids and they are ridiculously fast.
If anyone can beat the odds and God willing he does, Jesse sure can. Still praying WFO

I don't think it's about money either. If you're in it for the money I don't think you will be too successful in MX. Guys who made a lot of money doing it probably had much deeper reasons for racing in the beginning. Maybe later in their careers they collect some checks but at that point, they have earned that right. I have no problem with KW finishing 5th, he needs to make all he can so that he lives out his life in comfort.
You don't sound homeskooled, so you probably wanted it as much, if not more, than your parents wanted you to! But, maybe I'm wrong and that's why you're bitter! lol.
Now I guess I'm what you would call a professional practice rider, but I love it. I've got a semi-private track I ride with no jumps. It's completely old school, just rough as can be with all sorts of corners. My buddies and I go out there and ride all the time and I have an absolute blast there. And the thing is, no one has ever gotten seriously injured, not even any broken bones, because it's a really safe but fun track. I mean, you could still get hurt I'm sure, but we've minimized the risk as much as possible. Plus it's the way motocross used to be.
So I guess you just have to decide for yourself what brings you joy from motocross. Is it the racing, the jumps, the excitement of sunday mornings (cuz I definitely miss that)? Or can you enjoy it enough in some other way where you eliminate most of the serious risk and still have a blast.
It all comes down to your decision. How much are you putting on the line? Who depends on you if something happens? What kind of risks are you taking?

On another note my cousin's son plays highschool baseball, he was hit in the chest with the ball and collapsed and his heart stopped. Fortunetly he is a miracle because his grandpa is a fire fighter and started CPR on him and it just so happened that an ambulance was driving by at the time it happened and got the call and they were able to get his heart started again and he is perfectly fine. He is still playing baseball today and loves every minute of it.
