Matthes, Weigant, and JT reported not a bike issue.
The video tells the story. Unless your Gumby your knee doesn't like that
I don't see anything alarming in that photo.
His foot is under soft dirt, but it doesn't look twisted to either side.
The femur can rotate axially a bit at the hip joint. That's why there's no problem with his lower leg angling outward.
The hip can rotate assuming his hips are not locked. Can hips be locked?
I read something somewhere about unlocking them...

So... I've run into two, stubborn as a six-legged mule folks tonight. Marvelous, just marvelous 🙂
P.s. I just took a screenshot, when you watch the video it's more noticeable
Stubborn? I can be convinced by a quality argument or quality evidence.

Is there a video link I could watch, or a time in the broadcast replay you can point me to?
It's not a big deal in the still image you posted.
On the other hand, google image search turned up this image of a kid in the same kind of position (opposite leg).
I can go sit on my bike and duplicate that with either leg.
I'm unable to provide the link but The Moto 411 is where I found it. Check it out and tell me what you think
From Racer X:
"Of course, when left without info we've seen many theories and guesses as to what really went wrong. We've heard everything from Eli jammed his knee in a sand turn (we have a photo here), to hearing he had a rear shock issue. Be careful judging knee dabs from still photos, though."
I'd like to know what lap this occurred on and what were his lap times afterwards. That would be the smokin' gun
That Racer X quote is exactly what I was thinking...

ILoveMoto, I looked at the lap chart, It appears he started going backward in lap 7...
https://results.amasupercross.com/xml/SX/events/S2425/S1F1LAP.pdf
...But his lap times slowed down more dramatically at lap 16.

Not speculating, but I blew out an ACL, MCL, and Meniscus with my knee trailing similairly in a turn. Ortho said with a knee loaded up like this, it only takes 10 psi of opposing pressure to tear something in this joint.
Good stuff guy, so we know if this pic was taken lap 16 or maybe 15 it might be plausible the he tweaked his knee. His lap times dropped 2 seconds a lap after that. Otherwise we're back to down into that other rabbit hole.
From the same Racer X article:
"We even asked a suspension tech to check out the footage of the main event, and he did note Tomac's rear suspension seemed to be "oscillating" more than other riders around him on the track. Remember at this level, something only needs to be off a small percentage—and not completely failed—for a rider to notice a big difference.
Tomac's lap times were okay until lap eight, when he went from the a 44.9 (lap seven) to a 45.7, and then went into the 46-second range starting on lap nine. Either way, the Tomac camp is not one to usually throw out much info (or excuses) in public, so we may not ever know what happened. The only judgement will come this Saturday when we see if he's back to the level was saw last weekend at Anaheim 2."
Something for sure happened on lap 16. He road around like he did at Atlanta or the race before a few years back and admitted he tweaked his knee afterwards "as I recall"
Back a couple years ago tomac hurt this knee in a similar way.
What was his injury at that time? From memory he never had surgery or anything. It could be a reoccurance.
Definitely could have tweaked his McAdoos
At 2:06:21 in the replay (about 11:14 left on the clock), they're focusing on Tomac in that corner, but from the outside of the berm.
He kicked up a lot of sand with his boot, but you can't see that leg. Immediately after, you can see both legs from behind as he jumps the next section. His body english and leg don't look like he's favoring a knee there.
That would be somewhere around lap eleven...
At 2:09:17 in the replay (8:17 left on the clock), Eli is already going super slow as #7 and #21 catch him.
(This would be lap 16)
Plessinger passes Eli and pushes him to the outside line in the sand.
He exits the sand with another left foot drag.

Cameron McNuggets 🙂
Good work Columbo! 🙂 Now that's detail
Didn’t John Tomac say there was a shock issue? Why are we still debating this?
Hearsay... everyone else in the know says no.
Lap 16, Segments 4 & 5 vs the track map...
That coincides with my previous post which should actually say lap 16, he was passed by #7 & #21...
The replay shows him creeping through the whoops and getting passed.

*Everyone else except the industry suspension tech quoted in the RacerX article.
I'm not really convinced anyone talking about it knows anything (I sure don't).
I really like data, so I figure I can find it while I babysit some CNC machines.
I don't see anything material that suggests Eli is injured. Then again, the guy barely flinched when he popped a tendon last year.
Link? Quote?
Something definitely contributed to Eli’s ride, he was hounding chase the first few laps and then dropped anchor. I’m not buying into the arm pump or riding tight theories. Either way it happened a lot earlier than lap 15/16.
It's in this thread buddy ^^^^^ Read above about 10 posts up in italics
Same article Mav quoted from in this thread...

Red herring. So Weege, Matthes, etc. saying not a bike issue doesn't hold water?
