Benchmade 585. No complaints since I got it ,maybe 7 years now or so.
I believe there was another thread on this a while back. I have been carying a Kershaw Shallot for many years. I google searched it for an image and price and realized that it has been DISCONTINUED! I really love this knife and dont want anything to happen to it. Need to find a replacement for EDC and put this one on the shelf for special occasions. Ive got a couple more kershaw models coming but I doubt that I like any of them as much as this Shallot. Looked at many other knives last night but for the price I think its hard to beat a descent Kershaw. Im picky and kinda set in my ways of what I like. Every other knife has some little detail I dont really like. Found a benchmade that looked pretty good but for that much money I would feel uncomfortable carrying it around and using it everyday, dropping it in snow or getting caked with mud. Kinda like my old favorite pair of boots.... I wish I would have bought a spare before they got discontinued. Heres a picture of it.

I have wayyy too many pocket knives and fixed blades. My current carry is and has been a Hinderer XM 18 3". Its all about what blade steel it has, some crazy super steels these
days.
I’ve had a few Kershaws but they were always cheap ones with junk steel. They were nice though
That’s really nice looking tbh. What’s the handle material made out of?
585 is a nice looking one too. I’ve been staring at the bugout in my shopping cart.
I really want a Benchmade but I haven't found one that I like enough to drop down with the money. I'm not sure the model but my brother had one custom made by Benchmade and it cost him 800 bucks. It's a beautiful knife that is very high quality. The problem with their knives to me is most of them feel too light, I like a knife with some heft. My two knives that I use for edc are a Kershaw Launch 11 automatic and a Kershaw Link which is an assisted opening. The launch 11 was about $120 and the Link was $40 if I recall correctly. I love everything about the Launch except it is about half the weight and oddly enough I think that light weight leads to it falling out of the pocket clip often. Because of how good it feels in my hand and it stays more secure in my pocket I end up carrying the Link more often.
Note: I don't want the Benchmade because of the Gucci factor, I just want a high quality forever knife.
Check out the benchmade 15080-2 has a nice metal and wooded handle
I have two bugouts, great knife. Benchmade does the axis lock better than Spyderco, and I prefer thumb studs over the spyderhole.
My usual knife these days is one of the bugouts or a spyderco manix. The manix is currently in my pocket
I like that a lot. Looked up the weight and it's even heavier than my Kershaw. I guess I should have checked hunting knives and not just what they have listed as edc, That is going on the list.
do you guys sharpen your blades? I've been buying folding knives about 1 per year, the blade goes dull and i buy a new one.
keep in mind i'm buying $40-$70 knives so it's not breaking the bank.
right now i'm carrying a CIVIVI Elementum 2 and it's ok. i don't love the action, if i drop it it will open every time, and i really don't like the pocket clip. the tip of the clip sticks out too far so i've dragged it on my door casing and a couple walls at home. minor gripes but gripes the same. i really like the weight and feel of the knife. it's going dull so thinking about getting a different one.
I sharpen my own blades all the time, sometimes even when they dont need it that bad. Pocket knives and kitchen knives. The cheaper the steel the faster they dull. Good steel holds up a lot longer. I got a leather strop for christmas that Im looking forward to trying for an even better edge. I use a stone and then usually finish with a really fine diamond file on the pocket knives. The kitchen knives just get a quick once over on the stone. It really isnt very hard to do and dosnt usually take very long either. There are obviously all kinds of different tools and gadgets to help you sharpen too if you want to go that route. Id youve got a knife you like, NO WAY would I pitch it cause its dull. Take a few minutes to put an edge back on it and your good to go again. It looks like your Civivi Elementum 2 has nitro v blade steel. Ive never owned that but its supposed to be a pretty good knife steel. It should sharpen up really nice again with relative ease. My Kershaws have had 14c28n and I can get that razor sharp and it holds up for a long time too. Reading up on nitro v seems it is somewhat comparable to 14c28n.
Yup, although I tend to wait too long to sharpen and it takes forever. For the cost of a cheap knife or two you could get stones with a guide. Buy a leather strope if you want razor blade sharp
I found out about those until I was told about dtltrading instead of bladehq
Do you know if the lifetime warranty and sharpening is still in effect if you buy third party?
I’d assume so from everything I’ve read
Pit Row
That is the stock handle which comes in G10, They make micarta in different colors, titanium, all different kinds of anodizing. That's why I've always preferred them, I can make it exactly how I want it, hardware as well. They are pricey, but best blade steel and awesome warranty.
Para 3 and mini bugout(ti scales scales and blurple ti clip from lynch). Never carry the para 3 bc it’s enormous. Really only carry this mini, my delica, or a benchmade 940
Damn you all. Now I have a custom Benchmade Bugout sitting in my cart.
I have so many knives already. What's one more going to matter?
That’s a nice looking bugout
Spyderco makes a really nice sharpener that’ll sharpen any blade besides serrated very well.
I used to prefer serrated blades but, sharpening them is a real pain. I got sick of sending them off so I invested in the sharpener. The nice part about it is, I’m able to get my kitchen knives sharpened back up as well.
The spyderco sharpmaker can do serrated blades. You just use the edges of the triangular rods instead of the flat faces
It’s just a bigger pain in the a** in comparison to a straight edge for me. The edges of the stones don’t match the width of the serrations making it time consuming. I totally know where you’re coming from. I used it few times and, figured it was worth a few bucks to send them to Spyderco and, have them come back perfect.
I've been carrying a multi-tool every day since I graduated high school. You can check them in luggage when flying.
I buy whatever Leatherman they have at Costco has when I need one. I carried Spyderco and their Chinese company Byrd when I was in college but then multi-tools became more useful. The Cara Cara from Byrd was nice and big.
My wife bought me a Gerber once and it was garbage. Felt like Ozark Trail quality...
I recently found an old Leatherman in my dresser last month that I had lost 5+ years ago. Still felt good.
1960,s Buck knife . When I was 12 I butchered a deer at my dad’s grandparents farm house. You can split the back bone on a deer pretty easily. Sad but this knife is in my back pocket whenever I go to our warehouse office. It was my dad’s. Same knife I held for hrs waiting under his bed at 9 to slit his throat. And end the violence. Feels Awesome in my hand I tell you that. Very weird feeling actually. Hard to explain maybe power & freedom.
What a coincidence seeing this. My father had one of these that my brother got after my father passed . Somehow my brother figured out it was one of the original, something to do with the way USA is stamped on it. My brother texted me earlier this week to say he was looking at dad's old buck knife and it fell out of his hand and landed on his little toe and cut it pretty bad.
