Finally a new track idea.

A local guy has made and amazing idea for a track and it’s the most fun I’ve had on a track in a while. He has a pitbike track built and working on his full size track.
before you commit about it, it’s 100% traction. It’s not slippery at all and the track is perfect. It even holds up well to bike tires.
If you’re anywhere close to East Texas, it’s a must try.

Looks fun, but I am familiar with artificial turf, I question how it would hold up to full size bikes. Maybe specialized prep of some kind, not sure, looks fun though. Expensive?

FMX guys use it as a run up to their ramps. Granted, they aren't turning, but it seems to hold up ok to the power in a straight line.

The owner said he had it on a little private track for years and it held up. What I’ve seen so far, it seems to hold up pretty good. They are making some of the biggest bowl turns I’ve ever seen in my life!

if you’re wearing short sleeves when you fall like me then yes a little bit lol but on the other hand, the cushion of the turf helped soften the impact, and I just got up and walked away.

Great question I ran it as a private track in Washington with big bikes, all big bikes for six years, and it never got worn down or changed at all.

It's funny - in another thread the, um, "usual suspects" were talking about how, once the noise issue is put to rest, the next issue will be dust. All the tracks will be shut down due to dust complaints.

Well - so much for that. Problem solved.

That's awesome.  Something like that is perfect for a lower maintenance backyard moto track, versus trying to have a full blown MX track, which takes so much time and money to keep up.

I would  like to see it, but I don't have Instafail.

I was thinking the same thing. No dust , no erosion, no runoff issues. When combined with electric ,It solves pretty much every objection that is specific to MX tracks .  I think that there still would be somebody that would find some new issue with the turf like anything.Maybe not. Sure seems like a great concept.

Before I clicked on it I was thinking it was going to be asphalt millings . A local private practice track that is sandy made a couple takeoffs with millings on the face  to hold it together.

I'm sure that one of the companies making turf could make a  more specialized material . Many things that could be done ,like landings that have some give to be safer in crashes. Inflatable obstacles ?  Or resi ramps under the turf like the stuff Nitro Circus uses. Could make for a safer Supercross track that could also open up racing in different locations that would never allow a dirt track.  An SX round at Fenway park in boston, or other places that would never allow dirt inside.

Maybe this type of surface could be what SMX races run on someday. Keep SX and MX dirt .

So many idea's flooding my brain. I will stop now.  And in no way am I saying that every track everyplace should all be covered in turf tomorrow. I do think that like electric MX bikes, it could help save tracks and or allow them to be built in places that would not be possible otherwise.

So track prep would be running a bigass vacuum cleaner?

we race on dirt because it changes every lap. That turf doesn't look like it's gonna change at all between laps
