Best thing to do with a 2007 KX250F? Jerk the engine and sell it on Ebay! Then have the engine cradle altered and have Williams build you a 149.6 cc stroker motor out of a 03 KX125. If the damn radiator shop would ever get through building my radiators this one will be on the track.

We bought the bike as a somewhat crashed year old trade in for $1500.00. Sold the engine assy. on Ebay for $1750.00! So we really started out with a free chassis and $250.00 free surplus cash. A friend did the cradle and machined a few bushings and upper headstays for $300.00 and beer. Lots of beer, I'll probably bring him a few more cases next race too! Outside of the $500.00 (plus or minus $50.00) for custom built radiators it really could have been a budget project. Got a 2003 KX125 core engine off ebay for cheap and things started to get expensive from there when we decided to do more than just a standard rebuild. All in the name of fun though! Hopefully the radiators will be here in the next week or so.
Wow, that's a cool project you've got going on. That's going to be an awesome bike.

just not sure if i should get another 450 or mod out a 250 2 stroke, seeing as ive never ridden one, our tracks are pretty tight compared to US ones
On the sort of tracks we have around here mate you will go backwards fast.

2 stokes will never be able to make a comeback until they get to race "cc for cc" at the Pro level.

Then you will see make guys jumping on the 2 stroke bandwagon, just like all the New Orlean Saints now coming out of the woodwork.

I don't know if it needs to be CC for CC...

My 300 seems to do fine against the 450s... And I'm sure if it was 150 or 200cc s banger in the 250 class it'd be close too

But really the pros like the fact that a 4 stroke tracks the way it does as much as anything... The torque too... When you are going lightning fast and jumping mountains out of corners the 450 is great...

For everyday Joe's tho, I couldn't go past the cheap maintenance and smile factor!!!

Except for a 440EX quad I had for a few years (I've also had 2 stroke ATC's and quads), everything performance oriented is and always has been 2-stroke. I currently have a 03 RM65, and 03 CR250, and will probably be picking up a 02 RM125 soon. My son's going to be moving up to an 85, so I certainly see premix in the future. At some point in time I'm going to add a 500AF, and a couple vintage bikes to the mix (RM400 and JT1 at the very least).

I'd like to add a couple playbikes to the stable, so a nice little TTR125 or XR100 might be given a warm spot in the garage.

I completely understand the appeal of 450 thumpers, but I really believe that a modern 2 stroke 500 could be lighter, more reliable, more powerful, and easier to ride.

I started on CRF's then switched to a 250SX.

I prefer my 2 stroke greatly and I have became a much faster and more consistent rider on the 2 stroke.

As far as maintenance goes, I maintain all bikes meticulously so it doesn't really matter to me. Adjust valves, slap some rings in, whatever.

I have came across several totaled late model 250Fs however and a few 450s as well. I wouldn't buy a 4 stroke used w/ much wear on it that is for sure.

Newman you have a brilliant collection. The Mugen is a work of art.

I wouldnt buy a 02 cr250, Had one back in 02 and prefered my 01, i dont like the RC valve prefer the mechanical power valve. However i would buy it over the 250f any day. My 2 stoke resto plan at the moment is a 96 cr 250.

Dad is restoring a 73 KTM 250 enduro model, got it from a farm clearing sale, someone had hit a tree on it bent the forks and parked it ... still on original tires.

This thread is about people wanting to ride two strokes, not asking morons if they like their valve munching, rolling hand grenade. Go away.

Got it, youre slow and you need the tractor to make up for your lack of skill. Every fat guy owns a rolling recliner.

Yes, we have seen what you look like, from the pics from last year. You still
trying to blame that extra shirt for making you look like a fat ass, you should
blame the fat instead.

Funny have 180 hours on a 09 450 never a problem with anything. I really dont understand what people mean by a thumper costing so much more. If you take the time to change your air filter and change the oil often the thumpers run forever. If you dont then ya you have an expensive fix. I ride 2-4 times a week motocross only and beat the crap out my bikes but always change my air filter every ride max 2 rides and oil every 5 rides never have had any problems. My 2010 ktm 450 already has 30+ plus hours on the track valves are perfect. People want to think there more expensive but if you take care of them you wont have those problems. A buddy i ride with has 220 hours on his 09 yz 450 just did his second top end 100+ hours each time bike runs like new no valve problems ever. Ive blown up 2strokes and had more carb and power valve issues on two stroke than anything on a 4stroke. I like them both would love a ktm 300 xc to ride at the track but I enjoy 4strokes more.
See man, when most of us talk about the 4 stroke problems, it stems from the 250F. Even I have many times said a 450F isn't a bad bike. I've ridden the 09 CRF450F and did like it. But when we start comparing cc for cc. Things become clearer. The 250 2 stroke lasts longer than the 250F. The power may be scewed, but from races of A class I've seen between both, the bikes are really close at the finish. So when you and Racer talk about how good the 4 stroke is, please please please go get a 250F and run the exact same riding schedule for a year and come back and tell us how good the 4 strokes are. Again, for the 1000th time, it is the 250F. Not the 450. Not really bagging on you othreehundered, it's just the only time when we hear people say the 4 stroke is better, When comparing the 450F to the 250 2 stroke. Duh, more HP and more CC's. I've yet to see people come on here and tell us how much better a 250F is than a 250 2 stroke on maintenance, or better period for that matter. The only real major flaw I've seen with the 2 strokes, is that people didn't know how to jet them. If a 4 stroke is jetted bad, they run really bad and people know something is wrong and they get it fixed before blowing it up. When a 2 stroke is jetted bad, it still runs pretty good, unless you know what you are doing, thus some people blew them up. With direct or fuel injection, that wouldn't be a problem, thus the 2 strokes will all last much longer for everyone that had problems because of running them lean or too rich.

the tracks I ride on are like concrete so the 4 junk just makes better sense but I still like the 2s
