Kirk @ Xtreme Kolors got a pretty well done job on my Shoei in the vein of Pastrana.

DoggerI've done a lot of work with Dave King who runs the VMXDN, and painted this for Ron Lechien when he came over to race. So cool to work with a legend

You should get whoever does the PSD designs to do one up. I always wanted one when I was a kid, not sure if they are still active.

if I had the money for a custom lid, I always thought it would be cool to have a two-face style helmet.

One side either flat black or a traditional factory style, and the other side be the crazy tagger-style helmets that were popular from around 2005-2010

I’ve had a similar idea, same design on both sides, but half wild colors, splatter paint etc. the other side black, white, silver

I’ve had a few helmets down by local and bigger guys , my buddy has also  but different guys.
Do all painters promise a reasonable timeframe but deliver well outside that timeframe?

For instance :

Tagger promised 2-3 months /delivered 8 month later

local guy promised promised 4-6 weeks / delivered 4 months later

playing around with it, and I think you're on the right track with the same design - looks better IMO

I think it's something in the paint that dilates time more than Einstein accounted for with special relativity. You see, it did take only 4 weeks in the painter's possession, but a regular year has passed on the outside.

I made a Helmet wrap/graphic kit up  with  that concept.  The other 2 show how You can work the design on a wrap/graphic kit to look less like a wrap or graphic kit.  We use vehicle wrap vynil on helmets . The thinner material lays onto the helmet better and the adhesive on wrap vinyls are made so they come off clean. So no mess to try and clean up . They can be damaged easier than thick MX style vinyl, but really You should not be wearing the same helmet for that long if its being abused to the point that the wrap/graphic kit is badly damaged.  The wrap is more resistant to chips from roost and tree branches than Paint. But You can not get the super deep gloss finish from a wrap that You can get with a paint job.

Two different ways of customizing a helmet. Both with Pros and Cons.

 Some amazing examples of paint in this thread!  IMG 7834IMG 7835 20230805 17022920230702 13243120230702 13244520230805 17015520230805 170219

Guys like tagger will add custom lettering and then clear coat the whole helmet.

Not on par with a quality paint job. But an alternative way to customize a helmet. When I was a kid I wanted a custom paint job and my family could not afford one, or I did not want it bad enough other things.  So I started painting helmets. It lead me to doing graphics and having printers, etc.

I wish I could paint as well as some of the helmets are done on here. Makes me want to freshen my paint supply up and see if my digital skills cross over at all. Thanks for the compliment !

I think it looks really close to a good paint job. How much are they?

It depends on a lot of variables. But on average $100-$150 with me installing them on a new or like new helmet and no shipping involved.  If somebody wants some more involved original artwork it can be more. I prefer not to use clipart , I enjoy the designing process. But clipart can allow for a more involved looking design while keeping the cost lower.   Reprints of the same design  with a color change can be as little as $70.

I've been selling them mostly on new helmets that We also sell . And combining a wrap and closeout colorway has resulted in some great deals for some. A used helmet can be wrapped. But if SC-1 or a similar silicon spray has ever been used on the helmet before being wrapped, it can be very difficult to clean it well enough to have the wrap stick well. Also since it is thinner, chips and deep scratches will show up just like if You painted over them without sanding. Not that I would recommend sanding a helmet before a wrap. Just sayin that as an example of how it would look. We have done many used helmets too over the years. If You or anybody else tries wrapping one themselves keep that in mind. And be extremely careful with cleaning the helmet , not to use anything that will damage the EPS.  Dawn dish soap is one of the strong yet still safe cleaners.

Each shell size requires its own template so that it fits well. A good template will make a big impact on  how hard or easy it is to install and how the finished wrap looks.  I do not like to call them wraps, since they are more like a graphic kit. They leave some of the original helmet paint exposed and a true wrap would cover all of that and not be split into as many panels. But people  call them wraps. And the level of coverage is close to a wrap. That is why I say wrap/graphic kit often.

There are some options for chrome, metallic, holographic , mixing gloss and matte finish that  can add to the cost.    I did not intend to try and make any sales when I posted those images. It was more of a way for me to show what I felt like was a decent  example of a wrap/graphic kit on a helmet that was designed to  work with the helmet so it looked more like paint.

Here is another set of beauties that Kirk @ Xtreme Kolors did for me. One to go with my (Retro 92) look KTM-125 and the other to go with my 90's vibe. Killer work, killer pricing and a great dude to work with, Kirk rocks!

I'm going to have Xtreme paint my son I helmet in near future, God willing. His prices are very reasonable, advertises quick turnaround and I like some of the recent stuff he has been posting! I just wanted to wait til my kid wasn't tipping over as much before spending the extra bucks on paint lol.

If you want NAME and/or NUMBER type, pinstriping and lettering, there is really only one guy in so-cal, Jay Stemska, been in the game since the 80's and doing better work than ever. He is at TLD and the real man behind the myth when it comes to striping, numbers, names.
