Gone but not Forgotten.....
Not to take anything away from those generations of men, but one thing people fail to realize or mention is back in the 60s and 70s those bikes were a lot smaller than they are today. Granted, they didn't have the suspension travel or advancements we take for granted with today's technology. But, still the bikes were a lot smaller and easier to man handle. I mean I can ride the hell outta my kids 125F in some single track. Buddy of mine restores old vintage RM370's and 250's and those bikes feel like mini bikes to me compared to throwing a leg over my '23 250XC.
It was also the best equipment at the time. Who knows what people will be riding 50 years from now looking back at today's bikes like they are dinosaurs. Look at 70's "muscle cars". They were badass for sure, but some of today's minivans are as "fast" as those cars were.

This is a pretty cool video of these guys on these crazy Murderdrone board tracks.
No brakes and it was a total lost oil system meaning the oil would spill out onto the track and they would have to pump more into their bikes as they raced!

One of my favourite (groups) of photos was in an MXA test of a mid 70s Maico.
On a start line, Gaylon was beside a fellow Maico rider who couldn't get his bike started, Gaylon got off his, got to the other Maico, started it, and got back onto His Maico. And then, the gate was dropped.

Wow this just popped up on my YouTube feed--never seen it before but it was a very memorable day for American Motocross History.
The Luxembourg track looks awesome the way Motocross was meant to be and these guys wrestling these 500cc Beasts.
