Soooo .... how hot

does one of these things get? ( 2010 YZ450F shock )



Most shocks get hot enough on their own w/o any help from a red hot exhaust next to it.

Do the 'factory' bikes use any sort of trick heat shield?

Did you check out Pit Bits last weekend? The JGR guys are running a shield that they say drops the temp by about 50 degrees.

I wondered about this as soon as I saw the exhaust configuration. You would think they would have some kind of heat shield right from the factory. I'd wrap that part of the pipe as well as making a foil backed heat sheila.

Well if I'm riding the thing, the fluid will last all season long.
Hire me Yamaha and save big bucks on suspension rebuilds.


Seriously though, yeah could be a big problem, with absolutely no air flow.
As far as heat from the exhaust ................well just take a look at your bike. Same crap.

1987/88 CRs had a similar design and those were known to crack
(88 CR250 was a standard Piggyback) No cracking probs

The exhaust is right next to (below) the shock reservoir on the other models as well. It doesn't look to me like there would be more heat with the 2010 YZ configuration.
