Took off the swing arm and linkage to clean and grease.  Trying to put it back on and the bolt won’t go completely through. It stops with about 1/4” to go and won’t move.  I loosened up the motor mounts, tried moving the swing arm while pushing it through, put a long fairly thick screw driver through the other end to guide it as I pushed the bolt through and still it always stops in the same place every time.  Any suggestions, tips?

Engine totally loose? Shock removed? Catching on something, maybe a burr in the engine case inserts or swingarm bearing spacers? Usually bolt head has a flat spot to align with frame to keep from spinning…aligned correctly? Sometimes with engine loose you can take a piece of wood or pry bar & gently lift on bottom of cases to align holes for bolt to go…

Is the shaft bent or grooved possibly?

Will it go through if you try without the swingarm?  Just frame and cases.

Engine mounts loose, Shock linkage is totally off and shock just hanging,   The threaded head of the bolt is just coming out of the hole and that’s where it stops every time. The flat spot on the other end of the bolt will not get to the frame.  It’s lined up but is about 1/4” from bottom out in the frame spot.   It can’t figure out what’s holding it up.  I put my finger in the left side to try to see if maybe it wasn’t aligned.  I also pushed through a rod that is a bit smaller diameter and it goes all the way through.

I just had the swing arm off of my ‘22 CRF450 and mine did the same thing. I was able to just wiggle the swing arm a little bit while my wife tapped the swing arm axle in with a rubber mallet. It did not take much persuasion.

In the future I highly recommend the Steelhorse Innovations Bewel bar.  Replaces the swingarm bolt and bearing sleeves, lets you grease the bearings with a grease gun from both sides.  No need to ever pull swingarm again.
