Happy new bike day, gents!
It’s cool to see them rolling in, I look forward to hearing everyone’s feedback!
It does have the skid plate tabs. We are going to test for today to see if like the oem plastic one will fit etc
have we seen local rider reviews for a new bike before the press/magazines' first impressions before?
2019 Kawi I got June 28th or 29th and I was the first video of it on YouTube lol. Kawi gets a new gen bike to dealers first each time. Also racing the 24 today and three motos in its very quiet and a lot more top end, coming off my 22SR I’m short shifting it on accident a bunch and it’s a big learning process for me when having a lot more top end to use. Will be a much better bike than my 22 once I adapt though

Seem better than the sr? Hows power compare?
It's happened a few times. One year ML was able to buy a bikes before media testing. I think it was the 2019 Yamaha or Kawi?
Update, skid plate wilL not directly bolt on. You could “make it work” by modifying the skid plate but not a direct bolt on. We tried the OEM plastic Kawi skid plate you can buy for the previous Gen.
fair. thank you.
just seems we’ve been waiting a long while. weren’t tests typically done in October? I mean we’re 6 weeks from Anaheim
Less bottom end but revs farther with more top end. Could not carry third through any of the corners without a lot of clutch
Good info thanks
I can second this… I rode the whole track I rode at yesterday in 2nd gear. Third did not like to lug.
Great info, i'm a 3rd 4th lugger guy 😅
But maybe another map and a 51 sprocket might help?
That's not what I was hoping to hear. I think the old bike was soft on the bottom end, especially in soft dirt.
I agree completely, I want the snap off the bottom like the Yamaha's and Honda's have. I was hoping this engine was going to be a monster.
Are you planning on lining up?
Well good thing we're vet riders, you know we'll have pipes and ECU's.
Hell I bought an extra set of clean 22 forks to put on a 24 so I could have the black lowers.
Rumor I heard was the stock pipe chokes it up
Just buy another RMZ man... all your problems will be solved
Pit Row
Yep....that's pretty much vet rider logic right there. I'm bummed that they got rid of the coating for the new bike. I think it will show up on the SR version of this beast.
Got one on stand by.
Amen, brother! I respect your commitment to the vet process with the black lowers.
The muffler looks like it has a couple diffusers in it. Looks to be pretty restrictive.
I rode it in the agressive map. In 2nd gear the motor has tons of power off the bottom, and revs our much further then the old engine. Like I said earlier, I rode the whole track in 2nd and really never ran out of gear on top and had PLENTY of power down low. The engine is much more linear than the old engine. We never touched hearing or mapping or anything.
For everyone starting to panic about the engine not being a monster like the Yamaha or even Honda, don’t panic. IMO it’s much more rideable than either of those bikes, and has PLENTY of power. I’m certain with a pipe, mapping, gearing change (which ALL of us do) you can get the power where you want it. The bike in stock form is not bad at all. No reason to hit the panic button 👍🏻
That’s good news. Also, mapping is made much easier with the Blue Tooth app tuner.
It will be interesting to hear what people say after they get a pipe and ECU on there. My current Kawi 450's with pipes/Twisted Vortex's still don't hit as strong off the bottom as a stock '22 Honda, the motors are just weak. I like that snap off bottom to help get me on top of bumps easier out of corners without using my body to pull up and lighten the bike underneath me.
I'm really hoping there's more untapped juice on the new motors that will come alive with a pipe/ECU.
I've been a Kawi 250F guy for a long time. This sounds like when they made they changes to the 2021 model year (250). It lost little bottom end, but it's more linear and revs to the moon. Overall it's easier to ride.
Enjoy your new ride!
What springrate does the 24 come with?
Does the rear spring from 23 fit or is it a different spring on the new bike?
They changed the linkage/shock right?
I need one. Im sure the engine is enough for most. After all its a 450.
How is the suspension compared to the previous ones?
I think people need to realize there’s not a person on this thread that can actually use all of a 450 in third gear. Every track is different and everyone uses the clutch differently. I don’t use the clutch at all so I ride the gear that makes that possible, if a 450 doesn’t have enough bottom end for you you’re just in the wrong gear. The same people who want to compare 450 motors also say a 350 is all anyone needs in the next thread
I am going to thoroughly disagree with that.
While we may not be WFO all the time, the extra snap off the bottom is used to get on top of stuff using the motor with less body manipulation. Especially on a deep sand track with deep bumps, I am able to use the throttle rather than my body to unweight/lighten my suspension to get on the top of the bumps and use that power to stay on top rather than fall in the bottom, using less energy.
If you have a rough exit of a corner and a rough straight, that power is going to allow you to drive out of the corner and through the straight much faster and with less fatigue. Then if you start dropping your front tire in the holes, you have the power to get the front end back up and try to get back on top of the bumps. Or, you can use the power to double and triple bumps rather than smack each one.
Me Kyle and Bob turn our Kawi's wide open every time we ride even though Bob is a dick.
