Hey hey, I’ve been riding for about a year now and just started jumping a bit, nothing to crazy. I’ve watched as much as I could online but I don’t have people who can watch me jump and offer insight. Maybe I’m over thinking things a bit but I figured maybe I could throw a clip up here and get some feedback. I’m pretty comfortable on this jump, it’s hard to see but the whole section is a slight curve. I do feel a bit awkward on the bike though, I’m 6’1.
Just watch out for small short and steep faced 'kickers', The rear gets kicked up and tries to send you over the bars. You'll be learning how to hold your breath whilst riding the front tire.
For being brand new your basic form looks pretty good, and that’s a great little jump to learn on. As you get more comfortable slowly increase your speed to get a feel for how the bike reacts with that increase. Remember to grip the bike with your legs and try not to tense up your body so you can work with the bike underneath you and not against it. Perhaps raise your elbows just a little bit.
I'm not a trainer. This is what I do, and what I tell my friends when they're wanting to jump further.
Focus on putting your bike exactly where you want it to land, and at the exact angle, with your tires hitting the ground where you intended. Keep your bike mostly level, but landing slightly front wheel first is usually best, except in sand. Keep trying until you're landing how you intended.
Once you're doing that consistently, you can go a little further. If you're not, then don't. Continue to work on form, and putting the bike where you intend.
If you're having a day where you're unable to put your bike where you want it, or simply not riding as well as your last session, don't push it that day. Just do your best, and put in the work. Even if it feels like you went backward, you haven't. The benefits will show up on your next ride or two.
Also, once you're jumping about twice the distance in that video, as you jump, move your bike SLIGHTLY to the left or right, then put it back for the landing. I emphasize "slightly" to begin with, so that if you don't get the bike straightened out fully before you land, you'll still be OK. This just gives you more control of the bike.
That's all I got.
I’ve Definitly gone nose high a Few times from accelerating to much up the face. I know I’m supposed to brake tap but in the moment it feels impossible to let go of the bike with my legs to tap the brake. Not a fun feeling

Been drilling myself with YouTube tutorials since I got the bike. And good call on the elbows. Should I try to get lower to the bike? I feel more stable the lower my chest gets but I also feel like I’m way over exaggerating the position when I get that low. Like I feel more stable but the position itself is more uncomfortable and harder to hold for longer periods of time.
Ride A LOT... You can learn fundamentals from youtube, schools, etc. but no replacement for seat time.
Don't forget to pull the clutch in if you try a brake tap. Last thing you want is to stall the engine.
