I am currently in the process of having my rims and triple clamps powdercoated. Does anyone know how durable they are to changing tires, riding and just washing and all that good stuff?

Horrible. You'll be kicking yourself. Triple clamps ok because they don't flex, but your rims will look like shit after a few good rides. We had a set of rims brought in to get tires put on after they had been freshly powdercoated, and it was the joke of the week for everyone. They already had chips in them just from little bumps here and there. When your rims flex, the powdercoating will likely crack. Anodizing is the way to go.

You should ask these questions before starting the process. you might as well put the rims in the garage because the first time you ride it they will chip.

The only things I would EVER powdercoat would be non moving items, like a frame or in your case triple clamps. Maybe streetbike rims. But if it was my money everything would be anodized. Powdercoat chips and cracks, that is a fact. Your triple clamps may look good for a long time, but I'd bet that your rims will look good up til your first ride or two.

A friend of mine had a set done and they were very durable. At the time, he was a top A rider here so he definitely wasn't easy on them by any means. He had the rims and hubs done. The hubs still looked like new at the end of the year, and the rims had just a few nicks. They didn't look any worse than a set of used anodized rims after a season.

Another friend of mine had a set of hubs done by the same guy and they seemed to hold up well also.

I don't want to come off too strong, your rims may last a little while. But I'd say with certainty at the end of the season they will be chipping bad, IMO

We had a bike with the hubs and rims done and the hubs looked good and the rims were toast.

Nope
I ride all the time.

It's hard not to when this is 100 feet from the garage.

It could all be in the prep work or the guys doing the powder coating. Pipe looks like he had really good luck so I hope you do also.

If you have fun riding a dirt bike, who cares if your rims aren't anodized?

I raced MX bikes there in the 80s until a dude on a Quad Impaled himself on a stake and that was the end of bikes and ATVs
I would run a 21 tooth on the rear of my CR

my rims are powdercoated and have held up fine. little blemishes here and there when you look at them closely, and the very edge of the back rim is worn a little from changing tires but thats pretty hard to avoid

Powder coated rims are fine and if prepped right, should look good for a long time.

If it is done right, they are fairly durable. Normal chipping and scratching will occur, but powder coating is more durable than paint......if done correctly.
