Im picking up a '75 KX125 this week. The bike is original, from the original owner. It doesn't have a lot of time, but time hasn't been too kind to the bike. The motor runs very good though, so thats a plus. Forks need a complete rebuild however, plus normal wear items. Any tips or tricks that you all could share would be appreciated, I know zero about this bike (it's older than me and I never planned to ever buy a bike this old). Here's a few pics for you to browse and throw out some pointers. Thanks!

Check out Nightmare racing if you want to replace the bodywork. Good find, unique motorcycle. Looks very original. Hit some vintage rides, you will enjoy the crowd and comradery.
When I was in high school and getting started racing, I wanted one of those so bad! Ended up with a Penton instead. Congrats on the find and good luck getting it back into nice shape.
You don't see those everyday. Congrats on the find. Complete resto planned, or just get it cleaned up and solid enough to ride?
The goal for now is to get it cleaned up and ride it. I have done a few ACR races in the past with my Honda's, but never had a bike this old. My biggest hurdle I feel is going to be getting the forks repaired. Not sure if it will be worth getting these done or just shopping on eBay for a set. I am really surprised how good the bike runs currently, very impressed with it.

Cool. I've heard that the rotary valve engine in those did indeed run pretty good.
Interesting article about the KX: http://www.jonesmxcollection.com/UserContent/Magazines-1974-Kawasaki-KX125-Motocross-Action-Feb-1975.pdf
I had a '76. Pretty good power, but the chassis was lacking big time. I swapped out the suspension on mine. Only raised the bike an inch or so but it didn't feel like riding an 80 anymore.

Also, after my first ride the airbox was full of sand. There's a huge hole in the side. I installed some edge mount weatherstrip from McMaster and welded on frame tabs so the side panels bolted on instead of the rubber bands. The bolt helped the side panel compress against the weatherstrip for a good seal.
Some good info on this forum. Details on the side panels.
