Do you guys that actually own the new Yamaha models feel they are actually unstable? I find it odd that one of the most stable bikes available is all the sudden that different. In the consumers hands, not the team bikes. To many variables with the team setups I don’t think their opinions really matter since their bikes are quite different. I’m thinking of buying a new YZF450
Yeh 100% the team bikes have access to so many options. I couldn't along with mine at all....ended up buying a new non current (which i rode tonight) I'm smiling again. I mainly ride at a very rough and kinda fast sand track. The 23 was a blast on smaller tighter tracks though. The old chassis was kinda a do-all but maybe dull blade....this bugger is sharp or edgy. (for me)
Having said all this - some people love them. I'm a Vet (ex Pro decades ago) so i'm likely half the problem or all of the problem, just not fit/strong enough and don't ride much (2x week)
My bike has 13/50 gearing on it?
yes, but if your bike is a 23/24, you are running the axle farther forward than stock with 13/50 gearing, which is fine. But for a top pro, they apparently would rather not have the axle that far forward. They only run the longer swing arm so they can run 13/50 farther back, not forward like you with a stock swing arm. They run a longer chain and need the longer swing arm to do that. Its the ability to do this is why they switch swing arms, not to lengthen the bike. That's the point most are missing. If say Ferandis wanted to run stock gearing, they wouldn't run the longer arm, there would be no point.
