So iDangerBoy won a major title, I’m guessing he gets a permanent #. That’d be cool, rookie to favorite # in one year😁😁. Like the throwback blue plate/yellow 1 from the GNC days!

Pretty certain he had enough points outside of the SMX to get the permanent number. Not sure how SMX feeds into that now that, if at all.

Bailey ran the blue background/yellow #1 all year I think after he won the Grand National Championship. I’m thinking Deegan and Jett will too judging by the #1 plates they got on the podium.

I doubt it. You think Deegan is running a #1 all year?

Yup, going by what happened with Bailey. Both Bailey and Glover ran the #1 at the same time, Bailey’s was yellow 1 blue background.

I would imagine he runs a #1 for next years SMX rounds. He's not running a #1 for sx or mx. Just a guess

It shouldn’t that’s for sure.

I’m pretty sure ML confirmed with the AMA that the SMX champions won’t be running number 1 plates during the regular SX and MX rounds. Personally, I think they should. If they want this SMX World Champion thing to stick, they need to treat it as the most important thing. After the NBA finals, nobody really cares who had the best regular season or won their conference. Same with the Super Bowl, World Series, etc etc.

Doesn’t Deegan have the chance to pick a single digit number?  I’m assuming he’ll pick 38 but maybe he’ll go for the 8

At most, this should be treated as a regional title, he got beat in both SX and MX series. A 3 round playoff series shouldn't carry much weight.

Him picking a permanent number really has nothing to do with SMX he was top five in total points before the SMX series started...you have to be in the top ten to be able to pick a permanent number (non-single digit)

Why? All of the guys were there. It wasn’t split East and West.

Not a single digit, I said nothing about permanent number, which he has earned.

My understanding is that SMX champions won't have the option of single digit numbers

Per one of Mavs previous posts including the rules, this is incorrect. SMX champions can select a single digit.

Is this your first year watching this type of racing? He lost the SX and MX series. He won the SMX 3 race series. He is an amazing rider with tons of ability and he has plenty of time to prove such, but this year, he didn't get it done.

The return of the Grand National Plate was the proper way to do it. Hats off to the AMA, MX Sports and Feld.

I'm not, you just didn't seem to comprehend how the series works.

I agree and think they should get to run the blue and yellow plate all year.  That would be cool.

As far as him not winning (not directed at you TeamGreen) "the whole series", the pressure for these three races was immense and he absolutely won overall.  Most sports only have one game or final so not sure what the difference is.  Downplaying SMX compared to a regional SX title where only half the guys are there for 8 races is just ignorant.

Other then the money, a regional sx title is a much bigger deal then this 3 race gimmick. But that's just me

They do have the option to choose a single digit career number.

I was kinda thinking that at first too. But  there are 3 rounds with 6 motos that are scored to give overall points.  Where in the east or west coast 250 races You have a few more main events ( if you compare  a moto to a main event, since all the guys are racing both motos like a main event).  And it takes the top 250 riders from both coasts.  I feel like it is valid counting for more than a East or West title.

Time will show if it ends up sticking around and meaning something . Overall though I think it worked out well. The 450 class was a race to the last jump. The way the points are, it changes up strategy and I like the idea of  it. Its like adding a Nascar style chase without messing with the  current way of awarding SX and MX titles.   Maybe at some point they change things up and it becomes more like the old grand national title. WIth the points from SX and MX  factoring in more. But the way it is now, it made for some good racing.

What if Deegan and Jett run  their regular numbers with blue and yellow plates during SX and MX , to show they are SMX champs. And then run the 1's during SMX. But then what if they are leading in SX , red background with yellow numbers?  Or just the standard red backgrounds. Or do they just keep the SMX plate colors for SMX. I think giving the riders something special to run during SX and  MX gives the SMX titles more significance in a way.

Did that change? I thought the rules had been posted before showing that they would be able to pick a single digit  if they won an SMX title.
