I had posted this in the "moto" section but this may be the more appropriate place for my question. Can anyone tell me whether or not this is premix leaking through the power valve gasket? I noticed it while cleaning the bike. It's a yz250 (2t). Thanks.

Thank you. From my research into this it seems like this may be a common problem with 2 strokes and is not usually a worrisome problem. Any thoughts?

It should be ok, but you may want to replace the gasket on the next top end job.

It's not the gasket, the gasket is just a dust cover basically for the power valve linkage, it's a seal on the right side engine cover that goes around the power valve linkage shaft or on the yamaha diagram it might be called the "Governer". Also when replacing that seal, check the rod that goes through the seal for wear. If that has wear I'd replace too even though you have to buy the whole PV linkage which is almost 90 bucks.

The bike seems to be running fine. Any reason worry about it until I get a chance to replace it?

A lot of times the rod that runs thru to the power valve wears out seal and bore, sometimes a new seal works of drill bigger and install a bronze bushing, if it’s running fine just leave it.

No reason to worry.  Very normal for some oil to seep on power valves.   Have fun riding and replace whenever it is convenient.
