All props to Wey he is awesome in his own right but I agree with MXA on this one. Nick needs a fire in his belly. He used to have it but I think it's down to a slow smolder. I like Nick and would like to believe he still has the skills to podium (think 2006) but if he doesn't want to give his all anymore then just quit. He is better than his recent finishes.

I don't see any problem with being on of the most elite motocross racers in the world year after year. He's not pushing for wins, that doesn't mean his talent isn't far superior to 99% of the worldwide motocross community.

As much as I like Wey, he hasn't been up to speed since his concussion. I don't blame him for milking it for as long as possible but the reality is that he's near the end of his tenure as a pro mx'er. Hopefully he can find something like endurocross or Worcs racing to get his fix and make a few bucks.

MXA has a right to their opinion but at the end of the day Nick is still a viable marketing tool for his sponsors. I also think it's an unfortunate mindset that some of the media has "tossing racers aside that can't win". IMO Nick is a good choice for sponsors to get behind. He is has a large fan base and frankly ought to be making more money...... There is a good TV package and the stadiums seats are mostly filled. I'd rather see the media concentrate on that issue.

I thought is was a good read, the Nyk Wey part was harsh but that is MXA's style.

The media coverage that Feld puts out sucks, they feature a few guy's and seem to key mainly on the series sponsored riders to much.

the sport can never gain a bigger market share unless more riders are elevated to super hero status like Stewart , Reed and Villopoto

So you rather have a rider finishing top 10 for an ad than one that wins one Sx?

Which one gets the most publicity, thus pleasing his riders.

You sponsor riders, i always thought sponsors rather have one big publicity stunt than a rider who flies under the radar but brings home an 8th place in the championship standings.

What's your take?

That'll happen when more guys are capable of winning.

In NASCAR, any one of a dozen different guys are potential winners on any given day. We just don't have that in AMA MX/SX.

It sounds harsh, but Wey is one of the "also ran".

What's the big deal?

Why should everyones ass constantly be kissed? It was really accurate on all parts. I'd prefer to see more constructive criticism and realism in mx media.

I like Wey, but I also think this MXA piece was a good read and spot on.

Since when does telling it like it is make someone a slow-jealous-douchebag? Isn't that what a media type is supposed to do? Or would you rather just read press releases..?

Like Zap asked in his article, does anyone actually buy MSR gear because Wey wears it? I'm sure there are a few fanatics that wear Answer or Thor gear because of 7 and 22, but most of us wear gear because we like how it looks, how it fits or because it's cheap.

that shows how messed up our sport is. Here is a guy that is a top SX 10 guy.... in the WORLD. The entire planet of human existance, and hes worthless and lucky and milking it. Yet just a few paragraphs before, we should recognise and applaud the skill of the guy that got last in the LCQ because it took more athletisism and skill than most other athletes would be willing to face.

How messed up are we?

Well he got 11th................ you know how many riders in the world, WORLD, would give ANYTHING to even make the night show much less get 11th?!?!?! Just to even get a SX endorsement is HUGE, and we all go pffttt, he SUCKS! how many SX endorsements are out there right now? 40, 50, IN THE WORLD! Not Lites endorsements, full on 450 endorsements! And a lites sx endorsement is nothing to sneer at either!

Until we get the mindset out of our heads that anything other than first is respectable, we will have what we have now, a VERY small, niche sport that throws away its riders like tissue paper.

Nick Wey has built the MSR brand to where it is today. The brand has 2 Top 450 riders in the world (Windham and Wey) not to mention Nick always makes the gear look good!

I'm sure there are some people who buy MSR gear because Nick Wey wears it, just like there are people who buy Thor gear cause Villopoto wears it. That was a pretty harsh comment and it blows me away how people just write someone off who has been consistently top 10 for the last few years.

Out of all honesty, I purchased MSR gear due to a Nick Wey add in Transworld. It's the cleanest looking gear available this year.
