I recently purchased a 1995 Kawasaki KLX 250R that had been sitting but the previous owner said it started it just needed a new carb. I gave the bike a few kicks before installing the new carb and there was compression. I installed a new carb and I checked the spark plug and the bike will not start. The carburetor seems to be the problem, I was wondering if I should play with the fuel mixture screw or the float level. If you have any suggestions they are greatly appreciated.
Is it the same type carb that came on the bike originally? If so, did you check to see if the jetting specs are set to the OEM settings?
Take your stock carb apart and deep clean with Yamahalube Carb cleaner dip. Soak the body, jets, everything. You'll need to jet each passage with carb cleaner and compressed air, reassemble
Add a new spark plug, check the airfilter is in good shape. You might need to dump out the gas that's in the tank and refill with fresh 91 oct with stabilizer.
Then good to go.
Drop kick the 'new' carb unless you bought it directly from Kaw.
Fuel petcock or fuel tap may be crudded from ethanol fuel. Check to see if it flows.
Take that thing to Jerry Leighton In Hesperia (Four Stroke Works). Have him install a 36mm bored pumper carb. It will wake that thing up. And it will start first kick every time. Trust me. Tell him gino sent you.
If you have any questions about that bike let me know I spent 11K building my trailer buster 365cc.

Wow, cool build. Love the look of the OEM replica shroud graphics. That thing would be a BLAST to ride on some trails.
a KLX has no business looking that damn cool
Check compression and reference the shop manual to see if it is in spec after adjusting the valves. Rebuilt your stock carburetor as the Chinese one's are garbage.
