The old (true) joke is:

Divorces happen because men marry women hoping they won't change, and women marry men hoping they will. Neither one happens.

So, from the male perspective, you know as well as I do that many times women will be on their "best behavior" during courting, and then things can change once the ring is on the finger. It's one of the oldest "truths" around. Every comedian in history has talked about it.

So, just making up a scenario (because no one really knows), but what if Tiger's wife changed? He liked her the way she was, obviously, which is why they got married in the first place. If she changed, and she refused to change back, is this still ALL Tiger's fault?

ALL of it?
Nerd knows his shit, I said that when the story first broke, all those fun and games pretty much stop once the ring is produced...

And yamaharider4life01, it's okay to just get a divorce, but not to cheat, right?

So, really, all you have a problem with is the timeline. You don't like that he didn't get a divorce BEFORE doing all this. So, because he did them backward, now it's a problem.

What you don't seem to understand is that the underlying issues that would cause him to dump her are probably just WORSE than the ones that cause him to "just" cheat on her.

And it's a two-way street. If his wife was cheating on him because he's always gone and she's lonely and she tried to work it out with him and he refused to listen, he's at fault just as much as she is.

That's where you and I disagree. There is no good reason to cheat and if you choose the path of infidelity then you are the one that is at fault.

Marriage is a contract of trust.
Part of that trust is the trust that your partner is going to live with you, compromise with you when necessary, etc. It's not just about who puts whose genitals where.

To be a partnership, BOTH people have to do what they can to keep the relationship together. It only takes one person to end that. If one person quits trying, and then the other cheats, it's not "black or white". You can't just say, "It's the cheater who is at fault." No way. In many respects, the "cheating" happened well before hand when the person who was cheated on gave up trying to make the relationship work.

You guys are all stuck on the genitals but aren't grasping the overall dynamics of the relationship as a whole.

You're just making stuff up, unless you can prove she drove him to cheat.

Why would he be profoundly sorry and ask for forgiveness, if it was here fault?

"I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children," Woods said. "I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try.

I'm married, too. And, as I'm sure you've noticed, I can be pretty stubborn.

And I know in the back of my head that if I'm TOO stubborn on some issues, and I refuse to be reasonable, that my wife may just get sick and tired of my shit and she may just find someone else to "fill the void" that I leave, whatever it is.

And although it would really be hurtful, I couldn't in good conscience say that it's "her fault" and that I played no part in making it happen.

Some people love to live in a black-or-white world, but that's not the real world. You shouldn't kill people, right? Well, what if they break into your house and you're threatened? Oh, now it's okay. That's GRAY. You shouldn't lie, right? So, if your wife has a big ass, and she asks if her ass looks big, are you going to just go all George Washington on her and say, "Actually, sweetie, your ass looks pretty fat."? Really? Oh, so sometimes it's really okay to lie, as long as you're doing it to spare the feelings of the person you care about right?

GRAY AREA.

Same here. Cheating is bad. But that doesn't mean that the fault for it falls completely on the person who cheats. Sometimes, certainly, it does. But not most of the time. Most of the time, both parties are part of the problem that led to the cheating. And sometimes people actually cheat in order to spare the feelings of their partner, just like the lying I talked about above.

It's a hopelessly Impossible situation of Love.

Truth is Nerd the great demander of Proof is basing his opion on nothing but what he thinks might be.

We might as well be talking about the boogie man because we will never know the real truth or even if there is one.

I guess with this logic, Say I drink to much because my wife is bugging me and pull my dick out.

it's her fault !

Good points Steve. Why does a guy cheat? Because if can justify it in his own head, he'll go for it. Forget opportunities..opportunities are endless..its the justifications in his head (the one on his shoulders) that gives him the green light to do it.

If the wife becomes a nag or a tyrant which often happens, the guys love and respect for her flies out the window. Much like a womans love flies out the window when the cash dries up. She'll become the dominant partner if the man shrinks back. The guy will seek comfort and understanding in multiple ways if this happens, no guessing why prostitution is said to be the oldest profession.

Tiger has been a softy mommas boy till now, probably why he got hitched to a bossy woman, its what he grew up with. He's snookered himself in this marraige, 5yrs in, another 5 waiting for the kids to get older and the wife will really have him by the nuts. He's better to cut and run now to rebulid his life/career/profile as a lot smarter mature man. The anguish, pain, deepening resentment and probable further cheating of hanging around will only get worse....UNLESS..the wife hangs out with him at the VIP lounge too. haha

Because society has set up rules that most people actually buy, where if a woman cheats, it's probably because her husband is an asshole, but if a man cheats, it's because he's an asshole.

Tiger is in damage control because he lives in this BS society. That doesn't mean he's the only person at fault.

Our society sets it up so that men are just considered dumb neanderthals are aren't capable of having true feelings and emotions. They can't take care of themselves (you know, like the Carl's Jr. "Without us, some guys would starve" commercials). They are basically wholly dependent on the women, and the women are just altruistic darlings who are too pretty to do anything wrong.

But in the REAL world, which is where I try and live, that's all bullshit.

In the REAL world, women can be just as vindictive and hurtful as men. In the REAL world, women can be the ONLY thing that drives a man to cheat. It can be ALL the woman's fault.

That's the real world, though, so if you're stuck in this fake, bullshit world and you can't see the man behind the curtain, you're not going to understand what I'm saying. But that's more a matter of your lack of perspective than of me being "wrong" in any real sense.

I said from the start that we don't know. I'm not claiming to know. I'm simply pointing out what usually happens. It could be that this is a case where Tiger is just an asshole and wants to bang other chicks "because he can". It's possible.

The point is, no one is even ASKING about his wife and what she may or may not have done to cause the situation. And the great majority of the time, the wife is partially at fault.

part of what you are saying is true...a cheater is likely an indication that there are more problems at home. But, anything beyond that is complete BS. I'll assume that his vows were to be faithful...he chose to break those vows. If you want an exception...if the wife becomes incapable of copulation and they AGREE that he can play, I don't care. It appears they had no such agreement.

As far as the timeline argument...dumb. Dumb. Dumb. It's not a timeline. It's honesty. If you tell someone you want out, then you have atleast been honest. You may be backing out on your vows, but, you aren't lying. That's not a timeline issue. That's a moral issue and timeline is complete BS.

Interesting how Sting makes it work...from an '07 article.

Sting's was spotted sitting in a car outside an upmarket brothel in Hamburg at two in the morning. Close associates regard such behaviour as normal for Sting, especially when he is on tour, and insist it is broadly accepted by his wife. "They have a fairly open marriage," says one former member of his business team. "Trudie knows that he's a terrible flirt. As long as he's looking and not touching and it's away from home, she'll turn a blind eye."

According to Nerd's theory, rape victims are 49.95% to blame. My question is if someone rapes you shouldn't you serve some time too?

Short of infidelity on her part and even then there is no justification for Tigers behavior.

Why do you so desperately want to assume a man or women can't be held responsible for their own actions?

In the REAL world a healthy and sane person is not simply a pawn to what ever emotion their partner may cause them to feel and thus no longer responsible for their own actions.

So... where exactly did you get that in 99.9% of cases, if one partner cheats, they're both responsible?
