I started racing on the mini track at the Dunes. My first race was on a Sunday in 1976. I raced the 80 Beg class. It was the day they were filming for the Mickey Mouse Club and I finished 3rd. I was so proud and that started my life in the Motocross world.

After that race, I didn't race again for almost a year. My sister had a really bad crash that same day and my parents were kind of tripped out. When I started racing again I raced the mini track almost every Friday night and on some Sundays too, but mostly Friday nights. Dam there some cold ass night races I remember.

After a bunch of years I moved to the International track and started racing there on Friday nights too, but then started racing on Sunday a lot.

I raced at Indian Dunes from 1976 to something like 1984ish.

Man those were the days!

Does anyone remember a kid that raced minis around that time (79-82 - I can't remember his last name) but he was known as "King Richard"? I think he was from the Vegas area.

Here's a article about the Santa Claus Mini Grand Prix held at Indian Dunes. The article is from the April 1976 Dirt Bike Magazine.

Toby.. Not only did I start on a Indian 50 in 1975 at the mini bike track but my claim to fame was filming an episode of chips on that track. I did all the riding for the main kid in that episode of chips. A kid named Charlie Brown (believe it or not, lol) and I diced it out and the big scene was Charlie kicking me over in the S turns before the finish.. My only acting role..lol. I'm sure allot of you Indian Dunes regulars remember that episode of chips.

Good Times. My names Danny Lamb. I was one of the luckiest kids in the world to have a dad that ran Indian Dunes. Not only did I have a 600 acre park to play at 7 days a week but I got to watch them film all the best TV shows of the 70's and 80's and got to be in Chips..lol

Lmao.. Well we shot the scene like ten times because I kept falling over before his foot ever hit me. I was anticipating the kick a little early I guess. Even in the scene they finally used you can tell his foot never touches me. lol I hadn't seen it in like 15-20 years (because I lost the old copy I had a while back) but my girl bought me a copy of the episode for me last Christmas from netflix. The flashbacks I have while watching it are awesome and you never see my face because I'm always in my helmet but you can see my dad very well. His foot long side burns and slicked back rock a billy hair is priceless. What is also cool is the quality of the film. All the video I have of me riding back then at the dunes is that really grainy reel to reel 8 mm stuff. The copy I got from netflix is all digitally re-mastered and looks beautiful. Like it was taken yesterday. So just having a video that quality of me riding at the dunes on pee wees is awesome in itself. It was cool seeing any video of my Indian 50 my dad had painted up to look just like a husky (chrome on the tank and all) which was my first bike.

I raced the mini track in late '81 to early '82 before moving on to the big tracks. I remember my first win on a Friday night .... I picked up my trophy and started to walk away and they stopped me and then gave me an arms full of swag .... Oil, stickers and a new wallet! Damn I felt like a factory rider. I forgot who used to work the tower those nights on the Mini track, but he would have me hold up all the flags as he told what they ment. Danny, that is my favorite episode of CHIPS! that's so Kool that it's you doing the riding haha! I found it on YouTube one time, but lost it.

Danny I found the 'CHiPs' Episode "Disaster Squad" you were in! Classic Riding! Your part is right in the middle of the show & the end.

And flashbacks I have while I see it incredible and you do not see my face because I am always in my helmets but you can see my father very well. Her long foot burns and combs rock back Billy's hair is priceless. What is also great is the film quality. All the video I have for me riding in the sand dunes is that the granular roll rolls the 8 mm things.
