Fer cryin' out loud. There's absolutely nothing wrong with loving your country.
The problem is "wrapping" yourself in the flag and then pointing to those that don't support or adore you...and screaming "commie", "traitor", blah, blah, blah.
I have not heard the Deegan's directly say anything like this...but the fan boys are singing it loud.
Every American citizen should thank their lucky stars to be born here. But...that doesn't make us better than folks born in other countries...just luckier.
I have zero heartache with anyone on the podium waving their countries flag. Just don't even try to say I'm unpatriotic cause I dig on someone else...(especially a foreign rider). This IS America and for the moment...I have the right to like or dislike anything at my pleasure.
Exactly !! Steve was NOT saying that Haiden being proud to be american was bad. He was saying that he thought Haiden could be using the flag as a prop to spread hate for riders from another country . He was speculating that was what the long-term plans were. Based on his knowledge of Bryan's past publicity stunts I did not hear anything that made me think that Steve disliked the US. And I think because of that, I do think that if any other rider did the same thing at Red Bud , that it would have not been a big deal.
Steve just wants everybody to love everybody. It was the hate or possibility of hate he disliked. Not the love of country He was worried that people would take it were some are in this thread.
I think that more people need to try and look at things from different perspectives and try and understand why somebody thinks the way they do.
All of the people saying Get Out if you dislike the US, Its the hate Steve was talking about. Steve was pointing out how he felt like it was a bad thing to spread hate in the name of the US. Being able to say what You do not like about the US is one of the great things about the country. Not liking a part of something doesn't mean that You hate everything about it.
I think its funny how people are talking about 2 different things in this thread. And most think they are arguing with each other.
Pride of a person's home country.
And Hate based on where a person comes from.
I do not believe that anybody in this thread that is understanding Steves concern , is saying that they hate America . Just that they did not think that using being an American to divide people was a good thing. And that they can understand why Steve was worried that may be the plan.
You forgot 1 he probably has a Safe Space like half the people in this post triggered by the 🇺🇸😎.
The only people that I see that are "triggered", seem to be the people who are saying others are "triggered". I see some people trying to explain an opposing viewpoint. And then people not understanding their view and thinking they hate something. All of these posts are PROVING Steve correct .
If anything I would think that using being an American and a flag as props to pump up yourself would be an un-American thing to do. And being more disrespectful of the US than somebody who was pointing it out.
Again it was speculation on Steves part of what he was afraid it may lead to. But much of this thread is showing me he was correct to worry.

Yup a Canadian giving Americans advice on how to act concerning our Flag. Lol
Shit like this just makes me laugh. These political "gotcha" words and sayings people reel off because they don't (or don't want to) understand any of the nuance involved in the discussion. It's like you have no clue of how unintelligent you look by resorting to this crap.
When I listened to the pulpmx show earlier this week I thought "I see what he's saying, but I don't really agree with it." Then I moved on. Why? Becuase there's nothing there to be upset about if you actually listened and understood his stance. It was just a lot of speculation on his part on what it could mean in the future for propping up an "us vs them" rivalry. Now certain people (on the socials of course) want Steve's head, he's a commie, should leave the country, etc... It's nuts. It's also completely ironic that if one defends Steve, they are the ones who are triggered/betas/commie/etc... Just gotta laugh at the mob I guess!
The real Sasquatch and a few other's replies here shows there are still a few people left worth having a discussion with.
A few things... I would assume Jett isn't running that instagram account since it is only for his merch. But what's curious is the post was taken down. It's not there anymore (assuming it is a real post).
Anyways, I think giving Jett credit for that quote and post is not correct and shouldn't be used to say "but look at what Jett's saying" when comparing Jett and Deegan. Well, until Jett actually does say something like that.
I think this thread has run its course.
No minds were harmed in this production! lol
There is some really dumb shit in this thread but this takes the cake...many on here have "paid" for it by losing loved ones in the wars to protect this country, they have literally "paid" for it by being tax paying citizens, the families of 9/11 "paid" for it...We have all "paid" the price for the freedoms we have in this country...so he has every goddamned right to call it MY Country...
Well you know what they say when you assume right? You make an ass out of you and me….2nd if jet runs his own Instagram or not does it matter? What was written and posted under his legit account is all you need to know regardless who’s running it. So saying I can’t use his that context because you don’t know if he actually wrote it is a joke. What you need to be telling yourself is this, I wonder if jett or his person in charge of his account is trying to come back at deegan or maybe he’s just proud of his country and no one can touch him right now and he’s pumped. Either way that kid is 10 levels above anyone right now and he’s in everyone’s head including chase. He’s the future of our sport and possibly the only I can see that has a legit chance of beating mc record in supercross if he can stay healthy.
What advice did he give? That he did not like somebody using being a US citizen ,using a flag as a prop to spread hate? That was his speculation on what was going on.
IF Haiden was using the flag as a prop then I would feel like that is being disrespectful. That was what Steve was saying.
Who cares what country he is from. He was giving an informed opinion of what he thought could be going on. And to me that is defending the US and its flag more than being disrespectful . By saying that people should not use it in a disrespectful manner.
Maybe Steve was a little early to predict that was what the Deegan's are up to ,and he should have waited to see if there were more signs pointing that way. Maybe he felt it was worth the heat he knew he would get to try and put a stop to it before it got going. But I see no way in which he was disrespectful towards the US.
I can understand why he thinks this might be the case. I'm leaning more towards it being an in for the MXON team. But I guess we will see how it works out over the next few weeks when the races get back going.
The Lawerence boys are great for the sport of Motocross. My take on Deagan podium comment is that he said that as an afterthought
Read just about any thread on here where there is a discussion on another rider possibly breaking Jettsons undefeated streak and it's pretty obvious he has fanboys by the hundreds ready to dickslap anybody with the audacity to challenge their POV (all that to say Nationalism in AMA Pro Motocross is not an issue)
It was under his merch account. Not Jett's personal account. That's quite a big difference, is it not? If someone runs his personal account and that quote showed up there, we can attribute it to Jett whether it is him talking or a spokesperson pretending to be him. A merch account isn't pretending to be Jett.
Okay since you take charitability away, I'm going to respond with this. The post doesn't exist. It's not on his account. It's not on the account it was allegedly posted to as well. Therefore he didn't say it.
How is that any different? Merch account or not does it say jet lawerence? Merch or not it was under his account and those words were written under his account so the responsibility is on him even if he wrote it or not because it was under jet Lawrence.it might have been taken down but it was written and screen shot on here for all of us to see. Do you know Jett? You know who runs his account? You a personal friend? Like I said before I don’t give to shits and I think it’s good to banter every once in a while and maybe he was sticking up for big bro. This is what fires up riders and makes rivals. Obviously you didn’t grow up in the js7/reed days or chicken/ Bradshaw days.
Or maybe he saw someone wrote that and told the account to take it down because he doesn't want to "banter" like this.
Or maybe the pic was photoshopped to look like a post.
Lots of assumptions on both sides, eh?
And it matters because I wouldn't assign a belief to someone based on someone else making a post for a person's merch account. If I truly care what X person believes then I would ask X, not look to a merch account run by a company to get X's opinion. That seems crazy to me.
Edit: and not even going to respond with your last question. You aren't the gatekeeper for what people have experienced or not experienced lol. What a ludicrous statement to make.
So let me try to understand, So No waiving the flag of your country, no taunting the opponent and no shit talking? Because you might hurt someone’s feelings? Wow go watch football then. Might as well have all riders take a knee and everybody gets a trophy.
You’re making assumptions because of what you think happened or what you want to happen. There was a post correct? The post said What it said correct? End of story ✌️
You have it backwards. I'm saying multiple things are possible that we don't know the answer to. But you are saying we do know because you're assigning an opinion to someone who didn't write the opinion lol. But that is an assumption YOU are making because we don't know Jett's opinion.
I am open to other possibilities while you're being closed minded. Almost sounds like you want him to have this view.
Pit Row
I think y’all need to watch the greatest movie ever made! Lmao
You keep saying we dont know who actually wrote this. But we do know it was under Jett’s account correct( dosent matter what account it’s still Jett) Jett at the end of the day is responsible for his account or accounts that represent Jett as an athlete or his merchandise. Dosent matter who wrote it, or how it got there, it was there for the world to see. So regardless everyone saw it. If jett were to see this I would tell him good fucking job on waxing everyone this moto season. You deserve and should be proud to wear that Aussie flag. Good job this summer and no reason to apologize for anything!
My, my, my…Johnny Ringo, you just shit all over the silly fluffer rage parade.
NICE!
Now, was that 3 or 4?
This isn't a winner you think it is. Let's just say what you're saying is fact. The post is real. It was posted on Jett's merch account, etc. Now I'm going to do what you did: Jett saw what was posted on his merch account and told them to take it down because he doesn't want to start USA vs the world stuff because he doesn't think it's good for the sport. What other reason could there be for the post being taken down if Jett doesn't hold those views? Checkmate. My assumption wins because there's no post there now.
See why assumptions are toxic? Because anyone can make assumptions why something happens but that's all it is. An assumption. It doesnt get to the truth of the matter.
I’ll double down on my dumb shit then
if that’s the criteria to claiming it’s MY country, shouldn’t he be saying GTFO of OUR country
I thought that people were just not understanding that Bryan had made up the stuff between him and Pastranna and that it was all FAKE. And I thought that Faked patriotism for publicity would be a problem for somebody who loved their country. I apologize for my ignorance . I see that You know he could be just using it as a prop ( As in it could as easily be a Monster can if it gets him more $$ ) and do not really care. And think that it would be great if Deegan was saying people were horrible just because they are from another country.
The waving of the flag part, Talking shit part, was NOT the thing he had a problem with.
I thought that people were just dismissing that part, Not In love with it. He has said he did not like the other WWE style stuff. Tyler Even's act rings a bell. The faked drama for the sake of drama. AGAIN HIS PROBLEM WAS that he thought it could all be FAKED , just for Publicity.
And Dividing people more just to make more money was not good for the sport in his opinion.
I guess I'm diving too deep into this. Because I really think that its more a play for the MXON team.
"Might as well have all riders take a knee and everybody gets a trophy."
That sounds like an American thing!
U.S.A
You know guys, I'm a stinkin' foreigner. Imported Euro-trash derivative, by-product... reject. Almost as stinky as your nasty ancestors. Maybe worse.
In all my European amateurs races there was never a national anthem before the race. Here in the States, every hillbilly race I've been to, there'd be the National Anthem. I still get goosebumps every time.
There's something in this land, not everyone understands. Like they say in Blazing Saddles... the soil of the land... It's not perfect, but God bless this country and the hard working Joes and Janes. Nobody forced me to come here. I've lived in a few countries over different continents. I might speak five more languages than the dude next to me but It does not allow me to judge him.
This country has more opportunities and resources for most. It's not perfect and nobody forces you to live and agree with all of this.
Most of my ancestors would be goose stepping with a stiff arm if it wasn't for some young punks of the same breed of Haiden that went for the ultimate sacrifice on some far away beaches because our old nations were too f*cked up to sort the beef. Sure a lot has happened since, and not everything is rosy. In contrast back then some French Canadian were hiding in isolated mines to avoid conscription & fighting in Europe. They did not feel "concerned" by what was happening in these dark ages. Frigging Kiwis and Aussies, Canadians went and liberated my Grand Parents. Little detail of history. Not all were lucky to make it.
But I still am very thankful and feeling blessed for what this Nation has offered me, better than MANY other nations across the pond which did not. There are good people everywhere and there will be assholes everywhere as well. The big picture is, there are more advantages here that overcome the disadvantages. Unless you are better established, privileged, born wealthy elsewhere or dealt better cards in life, more comfortable within your native nest or your side of the pond.
This country is a country of CAN do people. The land of opportunities, innovation and enterprise. The land where you can disrupt the norms. It's not for everyone.
A rag punk like me who dropped out of high school at 15 could never get further on the old continent. My name, my accent and my Slavic looks brought nothing but misery among the judgmental frenchies, dutchies, jerries, and other molded euros. And I am no exception.
Here, in the land of the Brave, I was able to get access to jobs which required a much higher education. I was able to bypass and leapfrog my career despite the basic education I never got. Less BS and less protocol. I worked my ass off and moved up, moved on. My looks, accent, and unpronounceable name were never a hindrance. Just like in the army, I worked with folks of the land of various creeds and races. I learned to respect them like they respect me. Many successful foreigners move here, start a company from a few bucks. It's no bull. Arabic looks that would prevent you to get an job interview or even an apartment lease in France ( which happened to me, my last name alone was enough to have people hang up on me ) ... here in the U.S. of A if you work hard and prove you CAN do stuff you can succeed and move up IF you want to. There is no way I would have all these new cars and dirt bikes and all these fun toys if I was still an uneducated factory worker in Europe. Sheer honest, hard work. Opportunities. Good folks from varying levels of Society. Frigging Elon could have made his sh*t in Europe or in his homeland but he didn't. The list is long. Even DeCoster is here ! I am sure there is electricity and internet in Canada. I lived and worked there too. Gee, I wonder why I moved here myself.
So sure, there are some.. fine specimen folks here, " soil of the land" . But if they see that you work like them and share the same values, they will accept whatever eurotrash quirks and oddities. If you work and live with them. Because I have adapted, like their ancestors did. And there will always be a few hard nut to crack assholes that just need to be that way. If you live like an expat celebrity, I am not sure PR alone and various " acts" to mingle with the folks will do.
Not all G@ddamn foreigners do adapt and integrate. A lot tend to stay within their own communities, because it's CONVENIENT. They want the advantages of being here, but don't want the difficult journey to get there. I chose the path your ancestors did. I put my ancestors' culture a bit on the side, to fully integrate and adapt, without a shielding cultural " community " of mine. That's a whole other debate.
It's easy to criticize the soil of the land, racists, rednecks, hillbillies... Have you ever put yourself in their shoes? Have you made an effort to understand where they come from and why? It's cool to be knowledgeable, educated, travelled, ... but it doesn't mean you should look down on people who did not have access to the same resources and experiences as you. The same friction spawned from less-than-ideal knowledge & judgement occurs from the other continent as well ! It's a human trait. F your moral high ground.
I understand what Steve is trying to say. But the same work in every country. How many Americans riders have had their jersey grabbed in those tight turns in past MXDNs? Booed and suffered weird incidents ( Dakar.. ) If you speak their languages you'll find they are not as innocent as they look despite a few more hundred years of culture.
Just like soccer, you as a foreigner will get booed by the locals. Bayle had his share. So did DV, Dylan and Musquin. It's not nice but deal with it. It's sports and sports-entertainment. Maybe you want safe spaces in the locker room because you don't like to be b*tch slapped with towels and poked on just like they did to the Irish, the Limeys, the Scotts, etc.. ? Go play chess or fox hunting. Dirt bikers are mostly blue collars and people from the land. Mostly.
And sure. What James endured was not cool. Let's not let a few bad apples spoil the bunch. The majority of folks are good people and enjoy the sport. It's just the little chihuahuas that barks the most...uhh The empty can rattles the most! Especially on podcasts and forums.
God bless this Great Nation of ours, that has fostered many wanderers to much better lives. I and many folks I know are living proofs of this. Forever grateful. Following the spirit of your Founding Fathers, let's keep the good they did, learn from our mistakes, thrive and foster prospering future generations. We are all free to disagree, just like some of us can enjoy our guns, our bacon, our dirt bikes, our beautiful land, our opportunities and our Freedoms. We shall honor the sacrifices of our ancestors, pioneers and founders, the many who made this possible for us. I shall be grateful. Some of you have forgotten where you came from. Some have no clue what it took to get here.
Haiden has the grit and the spirit of what some of our ancestors had. DGAF. Sure , Brian is playing a bit. Who says everyone has clean hands? Deal with it. I see in Haiden the fire that I saw in Bradshaw, Hannah, Johnson and many other greats. There was no social media back then. Today you would crucify them for some stuff they did or said in their early youth. They grew up. So will Haiden. Ricky J had a poster in his box van that read " Keep America Beautiful: deport ugly people "... do you remember? Ricky J is a top act today, has matured and embodies the spirit of a racer who is well travelled and world savvy. Should we cancel him for that poster from several decades ago? F*ck no. T'was a joke, like don't need no stinkin' frenchie... Ricky J is not only a racer, but a family man. You can talk with him about so many rich and complex topics beyond what's on Pulp. Give Haiden a chance. See what he becomes later on. He barely has started and he is firing from all cylinders. He can only get better. I have faith in our youth. Good folks will always turn out well.
Nurture the fire because it makes the sport ALIVE. Grow a pair and thicker skin if it hurts, because that's life Ombre. Unless you are born in a privileged, fostered environment. Old continent bourgeoisie mentality does not play in the dirt with the soil of the land. The Aussie are tough. They were hand picked , England's finest folks. They will be fine. Aussie and Kiwis can take it and dish it. They don't need no mommy. Just imagine if the Lawrences were French.... that'd be another story.
If my clichés offend you, just realize while not perfect, this Great Nation and the people here are who and where the trends and your daily technology originated from. From cellphones to websites to operating systems, fashions and cultural benchmarks. Etc. The overall contribution of this land and its people overcomes its drawbacks.
Sure, it may change someday, but until then... you cannot rob the soul of the soil of the land, the pride of the Joes and Janes from this Great Nation.
I will end by chanting U.S.A ! U.S.A ! and I still have mad respect for anyone from anywhere who put their balls on the line and sends it.
I am not entirely sure I agree with all you said there but hell, I sure do admire your enthusiasm and commitment!!
Not to mention your success in your adopted country.
Very sensitive topic-perhaps even more so than religion in the Middle East.
