I'm from the sunshine state but things are changing...
74 MX is closed. Mesa is closed. Motobros is mid at best and I cant afford entry. Orlando MX was recently ruined with clay. What does that leave me with? Bostwick and waldo are really far for what I'm doing. I see plenty of private facilities, emphasis on the private part. Dade city hours will probably keep me from riding there. Spyder is not my favorite either.
So I can think of:
Pax
Croom
Please help me add to this list
you just unfavorited and disqualified a lot of tracks in a state that has as many tracks as any state. i'm not sure you are going to have any luck finding an itch to your scratch.
Maybe. I don't think it's unreasonable to leave hard pack to go to florida, and then have to ride 2.5 hard pack tracks. Motobros gets a .5 rating lol. 74MX was the best track in the state to me, so that's what I want to go ride but unfortunately I cannot now. ):
Pax.
Wouldnt mind going a few days in a row and I actually really like the "beginner" track. It rides well and is good for training on. Pax and croom is it so far lol. I see the place called "The Farm" but it seems private/sporadic. Anyone got Aldon Bakers phone number? Cant hurt to ask

genuinely curious about your motobros hate. the track is rad enough we make a FL trip every winter and camp out there. it's always been first rate run, safe, well prepped.
hate? hmm.. Not sure i hate it.
Did you ever go when it was Thundercross or any of the other subsequent names?
They brought in tons and tons of clay and made facility improvements and charge FIFTY dollars to ride and TWENTY to spectate. Husband wife track day? $70. So in my opinion, the track got worse and the price got worse, all in the name of a dyed blue pond, new fencing, and a really bad practice format. I race motocross, if I wanted a resort I'd go to one. I'm glad you guys like it though. I do too.
Edit: it's a great vet track and facility with lots of amenities and order. Not looking for any of that personally so I go elsewhere. All good!
just responding to your 0.5 rating. the only clay ive seen is what is on the vet track. the main track is deep natural sand. it's def not cheap, but the operation, ecsp flaggers, compared to say pax, is night and day different in my experience. pax is fun, but is much more dangerous.
You misunderstood. I disregarded 3 tracks and said that motobros is really only halfway out of the question. That's where the .5 came in.
They brought in clay for every track. The owner told me himself. That is not a natural sand track lmao. The "sand rollers" there is the only part of the track they didn't add dirt to. That's the natural area. This is what it used to be, and this is what I like. Similar to Morgans corner on the other side of your state. As far as the other stuff, I'm not worried about flaggers and experience. I want to pound laps. Enjoy:

The mx track at lazy springs should suit you pretty well. Kinda far from Orlando though.
Thats just the problem in Florida now, everything is shutting down and it takes 2-3 hrs to get most places if you are central.
*Bostwick also closes for the summer
I wouldn’t complain about paying more for motobros to ride. That facility is first class, probably the nicest public track(s) we have in Florida. Tell your wife to bring her swimsuit and she can hang out in the treated pond while you’re riding. Motorsport tracks of all kind are getting zapped out of FL, pretty sure we just lost Mesa last week. Support the ones we have left instead of bashing them online. That doesn’t help anyone.
Didnt bash them. I just dont like it. It's alright to have a preference. I'm with you but mx is not a charity, if they cant bring a realistic price point, then people like me wont come. It's just too much. I wish them the best and may still go occasionally.
100%, and you're right it's a bit far for a day trip considering i need to be involved with them as well. That's exactly what I am after though lol.
I wasn’t referring to your point about the motobros price point as bashing, but more so saying Orlando “ruined” the track with clay. The opening days weren’t great but the dirt has actually turned out to be pretty good since the clay has mixed with the sand. I think they messed up when they first brought the clay in and just dumped it on top of the sand. You pay for the amenities at places like Motobros and FTT, and I get that you’re just looking to spend $20-$30 and spin some laps, but those places are few and far between these days.
Yeah, that's really a bigger discussion on the direction mx is heading. It's ceasing to be a fun sport but more of a lifestyle you have to invest into and I'm not on board with that. I still stand on what I said about Orlando. It was the best track in the state in my opinion. Just like thundercross/FCP used to be also. I hope I change my opinion as the track "wears in". Like I said, preferences. But, I am longing to ride at some places like that and MESA and 74 used to be those places. Not now
100% agree. As stupid as it sounds it gets me kind of emotional thinking about all the places like FCP, Bartow, 74 etc and all the fun me and my friends had out there. It really sucks because so many of them closed in the way of “Thanks for coming out last weekend guys we’re closed for good!”. Up until a few years ago I had probably 4-5 “free” riding spots around an hour from you, but most are covered in concrete now.
Best of luck on finding somewhere to ride, wish I could be more help!
We had acres and acres of sand riding spots we would work on, rake, shovel, for hours during the week to go ride on the weekend and they too are concrete now. It is a heartbreaker. I wish these developers would go pick a spot in rural arkansas or something to ruin. Look around lazy springs too, it's the only place that isnt littered with new roads. It'll be gone in a couple years too.
I visit a friend in florida every winter. here is my thoughts lol
moto bros is worth the drive IMO. 15 minutes on track 1, 15 min break, 15 min in track 2, 15 min break, repeat.
Tampa has really gotten their dirt to be some of the best.
Dade is, well dade. Great but practice days can be a shit show
They completely fucked orlando.
Lazy springs, nice if you live close. visit once or twice a year at most
Spyder, owners a dildo. Spyder 2.0 will be the same bullshit
Sunshine - north florida, jasper area but absolutely awesome
Miami Mx - shit
Moto bros Punta gorda, not open but should be solid
Bostwick is a good track
North Florida mx - decent
okefenokee mx park- FL/GA border, just make the drive. you will be smiling for weeks
GPF - 110% worth the drive
Closed tracks
- 74
- Mesa
- Skytop
- Soon Spyder
- sandlot/FTT
- bartow
Seems like nobody wants to ride a sand track anymore…I winter in Jupiter and would kill for a natural terrain, rough sand track to ride occasionally…losing Mesa is a bummer, Dean was just starting to get the tracks dialed in. I did not go to Orlando after the clay was brought in, but it was one of my favorite tracks….I end up riding Moto Bros. often due to the 1hr proximity. I really enjoy Moto Bros. but try to go during the week for longer sessions. Like everything else, the prices have gone up, it’s still a bargain compared to golf or skiing. This scenario is playing out all over the country, the old trespassing spots we grew up riding on are long gone … development, litigious society, population growth… all factors..Croom is not that far and still a bargain. After riding around Croom for a few days, you will get your sand fix👍
Pit Row
Spot on. Don't forget mx191, haven't been but I can tell by looks it's awesome.
It sounds to me like you should just not bother with bringing bike and gear. Everything is either too far, it sucks, too expensive, closed, not worth the time/money. You just won’t be happy.
Why bother even posting that?
But, no joke. Maybe I'll keep my money and be one less person supporting the dying industry that is florida motocross.
I forgot to mention, but if you like Tampa MX, or haven’t been yet be sure to check it out. I know the dirt track next to it will be gone in Fall of 2024, guessing the same or earlier for the MX track.
I may take a day when I'm there to wake up a little early and go because the helmet cams I've seen look so fun. Fun level 10/10 on a dirtbike.
Are people in Florida sick of riding in the sand? Orlando was a great track, I cant figure out why they would bring in all that clay.
It’s an awesome little track to zip around on. They’re always messing with the layout, dirt is killer, and it’s run very organized. Nice people too.
How is Croom these days. Haven't been there in about 20 years. It was fun back then, especially if you learned the place. Follow a local who rides there a lot.
The trail loops are great, some are marked out, some not. lots of GNCC guys ride there in the winter. Of course, best after some rains. If it’s not too busy the front pit can be a good workout. Wish my place was closer…I”m on the east coast….
Any idea why Mesa closed and did not just sell it?
They really clayed up Orlando? Damn
It seemed to be the trend. They dumped a ton of clay on Bartow before it closed too.
