so, I'm shopping for a helmet. I was going to get a bell moto 8 and still might here:

bellhelmets.com

They have great closeout deals. But, I found a Shoei V-Moto Podium TC-6 Helmet

http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=3302018…

at Denniskirk between 169 and 234 on closeout.

Any opinions on the VFX-V?

I LOVE the VFX-W. I think they are the best helmets out there right now. And they also look the best as well to top it off. little expensive, but well worth it. I got 2 of them. wouldnt trade them for anything else at the moment

thanks. Although I'd love to get the W, or something like that, I can't drop that kind of money on a helmet if I don't have to.

I'm wearing a Bell moto-8 at the moment. Its absolutely awesome, best helmet i've ever had, and I had an Arai before this. I've never tried a Shoei though but realistically you can't go wrong with any of the top of the line helmets. Just try them on and go with the best fit.

I tried one for less than 2 months and then dumped it and went back to an HJC SPX.

Did not like that helmet at all.

I am going to get a new helmet later this month either a Moto8 or another SPX

X2 as far as my son is concerned. tried quite a few different brands (bell, hjc, 661, thor)
says nothing compares. do know a couple of guys who don't like though. my kid loves way it fits around head and face (snug), same things others dislike. be sure to try on if you can. know it's a lot of jack, but it's your head your protecting there.

We wear Bell Moto 8's. But mainly because you can get one for $150 on clearance any day of the week and they have great venting which is great here on the Gulf Coast. I would say they are on the bottom of the top of the line.

However, the Bell moto's are a mass produced from China and the Shoei are made in Japan in less quantity in a more quality controlled environment. So most consider them to be a better quality helmet than the Moto 8.

If you are like us and ride at less that race speeds most of the time, the Bell 8 is a solid choice. If you spend most of the time pinned in 5th gear you may want to go with the Shoei (or Arai) for a bit more protection.

I don't know that much about the others that were mentioned above, they may be great choices as well. So try them on and see which fits yo the best. A great helmet is not as effective if it does not fit right. So the fit may determine which you decide to go.

And lastly, darn near all these helmets that retail for $300 or more are way better then the best ones available 8 years ago, so buy the best helmet you can affort that fits the best, and ride on!

Jeff Smith took one too many knocks to the melon with that lid. I now understand the AHRMA debacle completely.Angry

The Moto 8 is by far the best helmet ever made. It is very lightweight and the venting is amazing! The liner is very very comfortable and also to the cheek pads and liner come out for cleaning. It also comes with a matching extra visor and extra cheek pads, plus a helmet bag that looks like it would cost 50 or 60 bucks alone. It has a 5 year warranty and I know that they stand behind this warranty. I will never run another brand of helmet and I dont suggest you do either.

I liked the Arai front mouthpiece design that is more rounded and I believe they copied that from Bell. However, my new Arai just don't feel that comfortable and I get hot as shit inside it. I would be curious on the Bell. Heard many good things about it and much cheaper than the Arai.

Our Bell Moto 8 started falling to bits after a few days. Noting serious but did NOT inspire confidence in the overall quality. We were quickly back with TLD helmets which have stood up to lots of (severe) testing by us for the past few years.

I've been wearing Moto 7's for years now. But, the buckles rust really bad and really quickly. They do fit me well, but the Moto 8 is really a different design and has a different feel. I can wear one, but, I wanted to try something different.

As far as the concussion rate on the moto 8...calling something like that based on your observations...pretty questionable there.

I was in the same situation a few months ago deciding between a Shoei and a Bell Moto 8. Went with the Bell and I am happy with it. Soo many places you can find last years Moto 8's on closeout for really good prices!

I have the VFX-W. I love it. I can't claim it's "the best", since I haven't tried many others. I will say in my limited experience, it's the best I've seen/tried.

The single most important part of ANY helmet is that it fits you properly. People have different shaped heads and helmet manufacturers make different shaped helmets. Buy the best helmet you can buy that fits your noodle properly.

From my experience if you have a round shaped head Thor and Arai and Bell will fit your head well. (they Don't fit me well at all)

If you have an oblong peanut like me the HJC, Shoei, One industries helmets will fit you well.

These are just the brands I have owned or tried on. It should also be noted that different helmets within a companies product line fit differently as well.

Happy shopping.

Yep I agree. I am wearing a M2R carbon kevlar right now I got for 75 bucks from Ironpony.com Fits my round head almost as good as an Arai.
