So was out in Ocotillo this past weekend and i have 2004 YZF450. So has i was riding once in 4th gear i could hear my transmission making some noises and it felt like it wanted to hit a false nuetral. It was previously sounding like it was missing alittle only in 4th gear. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers and Happy Holidays.

Fork...probably.

Thrust washer...possibly.

Tear-down...positively.

I've seen YZf trannys that round off the dogs on the gears and bend shift forks jumping out of gear. A partially engaged gear will make the noises you speak of and still pull.

Sounds like you need to tear into the bottom end and closely inspect all the parts associated with 4th gear.

Thanks for the input. I will be having someone tear into the moto soon to see what's going on inside. This bike has never been cracked open yet. I have a lot of hours on this thing from tracks to numerous Desert trips. Thanks again for your suggestions. Cheers and Happy Holidays
