There will NEVER be another one like him.....
79 years young, a mere 500 Million in the bank and still touring with his ballet G/F of many years by his side.

I am so lucky to have see the Stones in their prime during the 80's. Both Shows at the LA Coliseum 100,000 + and Anaheim Stadium were incredible and I will never forget how Mick just goes non-stop 100 %!
Never seen this music video but it's a good one....![]()
Weโre you at the show when Prince got boooooed off the stage?
Yes I was!
Prince had yet to hit the big time and why they used him as a intro act to the Rock and Roll legend Rolling Stones is something I will never understand. His music and style was so different from the Stones--couldn't have been more OPPOSITE of what we came to see.
Anyway there was a 100,000+ Imbrebiated Rock and Roll fans there and Prince comes out doing his stuff and the fans started booing and throwing crap, bottles etc.
So they walked off the stage for their own safety, a few minutes later Mick Jagger comes out grabs a microphone in disgust and yells "Hey this is a new group trying to break through if you don't stop throwing bottles we will not come out!!!
There was a hush over the crowd and everybody sat down in their seats...๐
And about 5 minutes later Prince comes back out and everything was okay.....
Yeah. He could not have been more annoying.
J. Giles, George Thorogood. Might be missing another band.
So you were there too!
Awesome

Yeah. Took my little sister and her friend. Of course they wanted to be right up front. Ugh. Long day.๐
I saw that tour, but I don't think Prince was there.
George and J. Giles sounds right.
I was going to so many shows and doing so many back then, they all seem to run together.
Big Stones fan here ---but -- The GOAT?
As a Frontman for his longevity, charisma and energy I would say yes.
Who would you pick ahead of him?
They probably figured after the LA debacle it wasn't a good idea....
Anyway there was a 100,000+ clueless Rock and Roll fans......
Fixed it for you. Prince > Jagger
Side note: Prince had the best SuperBowl halftime show ever. Fight me.
OK, I see the longevity, energy and charisma part. IMO their product has sucked since 80 or 81. That's a long time, but here they are, selling out stadiums.
Jagger has always been, to me, the ultimate sampler, he's a little bit of everyone he's ever seen and it slowly became his act.
The other Stones, all originals, and hard to replace, Ronnie Wood saved their ass in the mid 70's.
This is another discussion that could go forever. I do not have the rock history mind to go too deep.
I guess I opened this expecting many others before Jagger.
You're not wrong about the halftime show. Holy raining shit, batman.
I'll say this about the comparison to Jagger: It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges. Prince was a total musician, killer guitarist, and had at least as much swagger as Mick. However, the Stones have the massive, epic history which elevates Jagger to greatness. Also, The rolling Stones are classic rock while Prince is that funky/new wave/glam angle that classic rock guys hate on sometimes. Too close to call, but the fans at a Rolling Stones concert would do well to pay attention to Prince's set instead of booing him. They might be surprised.
I really don't care for anything they've done after the 70s but you can't deny their popularity and longevity. I think Robert Plant , Jim Morrison, and Freddie Mercury are in the conversation.
Bono just took his shirt off!
Well said.
I'm a fan of most kinds of music...cept cRap and HipHop. (admittedly the really good stuff died out in the early 90's)
Given a choice and a time machine....I honestly would rather go back and see Prince in his heyday. Dude was so talented as a musician and performer.
...and yeah, Prince's half-time show was legend.
I like some of the Stones music due to it's classic rock stature...but was never a fan of the band.
Wouldn't the Beatles or Elvis be considered the GOAT based on record sales?
If there was a pyramid of living rock and roll legends, Mick and Keith are at the topโฆif not for Paul McCartney. The Beatles are the GOATs, and Paul was their de facto leader.
Eric Clapton wrote about his friendship with George Harrison. Old Slowhand was immensely popular and famous, but he said anywhere they went, George was the center of attention. Because he was a Beatle.
Saw the SF showโฆ
As a fan of all the bands that were there that day, well, for meโฆ?
The ticket was up-side-down!
Thorogood crushed it. J Giles was damn good and the Stones were ok. I know that sounds sacrilegious; but, thatโs how the SF show seemed to me
Pit Row
Sticky Fingers is one of my all time favorite albumsโฆso, I get where youโre coming. Later albums had some great stuff; but, nothing where the whole damn album is amazingโฆlike on Fingers.
Music is like anything-else, itโs all about our own personal taste.
Funny ting about getting older, I find myself listeningโฆintentionallyโฆto stuff I sort of didnโt likeโฆor so I thoughtโฆand I find myself stumbling onto some great stuff Iโd written off in my younger years.
Only if the contest was for โmost overrated band in history.โ
Ditto. There was so much awesome stuff I missed 'cause I was a hard core rocker. I'm rediscovering what I missed...and it's awesome.
I was at shows where SRV was back up.
Man he used to play small venues around tow
n. People couldn't understand. CT
Best guitar player ever.
Probably get a hell no, but who's better,?
Jeff Beck could play.
Clean this mess up or we'll all end up in jail
Those dudes are fantastic.
MaybeโฆRonnie Montrose?
orโฆ
Whatโs his name from Yes?
I actually believe Joe Satriani is on that list.
In my mindโฆhell, Brian May is amazing.
About Jeff Beck, and this sounds cornyโฆI knowโฆHe isโฆahโฆfuck, wasโฆdamn I hate saying thatโฆa special kind of genius that belongs on a list with Bach and Mozart. AndโฆyesโฆI know thatโs probably weird to some of you. Thatโs ok. Iโm good with it.

I saw SRV at Chicagofest back in 82 or 83 . Did some Hendrix covers and a lot of jamming . It was at a free stage and we were right up front . Incredible player .
So many great ones . Steve Howe was in Yes .
Well, the Beattles broke up, and Elvis croaked,Mick is still selling tickets just sayin.....
EXACTAMUNDO--Racin Macin has it right!
As the Goat of our sport that we all love and who brought us to this crazy board known as vitalmx.
RC has said "you have got to be in it to win it" and Mick is still going strong.
Amazing if you ask me when so many of his contemporaries have died and a lot of them were overdoses he just keeps going on and on and he hasn't done it for the almighty $$ as he has been set for Life many moons ago and could have faded Into the background but he keeps doing laps....

Ol Mick even survived being on the "Hit List" of the Hells Angels...
I'm so old I remember this concert, somebody died in the crowd by getting Stabbed by a hell's angel.
