has anyone used or tried the HD version of the GoPro? thinking of an xmas present to myself... google is brining up prices of 269.99 but clickable links takes me to the same 299 price. a cyber monday deal would be nice!

im curious if the HD upgrade is really worth it from the reg. on their site the footage is amazing with HD but im wondering what kinda of shots the average joe will get...anyone?

I was wondering the same thing, I wouldn't think I really need to spend the extra $100 for the HD one.

I have had one for about a week now.

Video is better for sure, but the reason I wanted it was the rechargeable battery pack.

Btw, if anyone wants the hero wide mine is for sale for 120.00 shipped!

The helmet cam vid I posted is from the GoPro HD... Quality is excellent! Especially when you play it straight from the camera to the TV...

also here is a sequence of shots from the camera:
(Keep in mind that both the vid and sequence shots are compressed for the web)

All i'm getting here is a slide show with no sound? I thought this was a video? Maybe my comp isn't playing it right , but the timer on the video is counting down correctly. Either way......the shots are really , really clear.

BTW.....what track is that? It's friggin' sweet!

it does look pretty clear...

see here is a vid with the regular, and the i the lighting really makes for horrible video. plus im wondering when compressing for vimeo or youtube if you lose your HD advantage anyways....

This is a sequence slide show, not a video... Click where it says "Click here for the post" for the video...

The track is Seminole Tribe Motocross in South Florida...

The BIG advantage to the new HD is the SOUND, they really worked on it, sound quality is so much better.. If your compression setting are good, the video over the web will be so much better than the regular GoPro... IMO it is a good deal, and I love the camera.

Looks good, but what I have often noticed are some popping sounds with helmet cameras, which don't come from rocks hitting it. Like in this video:

doublezero, do you run the camera in the waterproof box all the time? some local guys were saying they do that for added protection from rocks\dirt kicking up.

Yes I use it all the time, you don't want to damage the lens. You can easily replace the lens cover.

Maybe that noise is caused by the end of the helmet strap flapping around? Or stuff hitting the fenders?
