The final round of the 2003 motocross championship was canceled so the AMA called Grant Langston to let him know he was the champ. Grant was shacked up with a dozen or so other factory riders at Broc Sellards house and the impromptu party that ensued was epic. Check out that and other great stories on this week's Winner's Take Y'all wherever you get your podcasts. Follow us on Instagram for all our stupid updates @winnerstakeyall

You mean the one where James came back at the 5th round and went 14/14 motos 7/7 OA? I like Langston, but that was an * championship. I’m sure the checks still cashed the same though and he’s still in the record books as champion.
I did hear about the crazy shenanigans at the party though.
If you miss 4 rounds you won’t be a champion it’s that simple , therefore he did deserve it
The racer with the most points earned not deserve the championship. James did not deserve the title as he did not have the most points regardless his situation.
"you have to be in it..."
I didn’t say he didn’t deserve it, especially after what happened to him in 2000 or 2001, the time where his wheel fell apart. They should’ve found somewhere to have the last round instead of just canceling it. James was only 30 points down after missing the first 4 rounds and the way the season was going, he was 1 dnf away from being champion.

Winners take Y’all is the greatest. Bunch a good ole boys talking shit and telling stories. Thanks for the all time content fellas!
They’re all so funny 😆
I really think that was the wrong decision by the AMA. That round had to be run. They found a way to do it for SX in 2020. Sucks for Hughes and Langston both. More for Hughes though.
Stewart was insane that year. Dead last to first at Budds in under half the race is just something that hasn’t even been close to being done since.
GL is a champ no matter how you slice it. He also did it in SX, got a 450 outdoor title and some world titles as well and he's a helluva fun interview and there's no asterisk by any of his shit.
Good Lord, alrighty then! Nobody was disputing anything you said, just bench racing. Now that you mention 2007, that 450 title is suspect too. 😏
2000 Grant was The 125 World Champ. I watched the vhs of the season countless times. 01 the battles with Brown where great. 03 battles with Hugh,s where great too. They both wanted to win bad. Ohio had a Huge storm lastnight tornadoes then 65+ winds with massive sheets of rain& some hail. The hail was supposed to b golf ball sized. I parked for 1.20 hrs dropped the air bags set the alarm for 50 min . So I didn’t hear the tornado but it was loud. Pic is tonight 1/2 mi from where I parked lastnight. Trans power lines down for 2+ miles.
Why can’t I post a pic ? It uploads off my library then it says choose a file. But I already did. Oh well I,m sure everyone has seen transmission power lines down b4. All the poles look new.
I remember when I gave Ryno this @A1 and he said he was going to stick it on Grants bike.
RIP Eddie - full respect

I still feel for Ryno for that cancellation last race. It’s still bonkers to me that they ended the championship like that. Anyone remember Ryno breaking his leg in moto 1 at Southwick?..finishing the moto & lining up & racing moto 2. I thought David Bailey was going to flip shit.
What an interesting year. Great battles!
That was quite a season. The Kenworthy track was flooded out twice. Once during the regular season and then again when the makeup race was scheduled.
Poor Don.
Why was it cancelled? I was just a kid and don’t remember
Remember when Jeff Ward heard he was the 1985 Supercross champ the same way?
Major flood. Probably the best track for watching it on tv. 94,95 r on yt d Damon Huffman owned that place . And won the hottest race ever in 97.
They called because Covid was coming.
