Tell me about that swingarm, what brand is it? I have a super nice 81 YZ60, unrestored original with all the #1 plates still on it. Had to put a fresh top end on it when I got it. I think someone here recommended that a KX60 piston would work in it. Had to copy the cutaway on the intake side and cut the KX piston to match but it worked out perfect. I also have a NOS DG pipe hanging in the garage for it along with a couple nos pieces of plastic. I also have a nce 1980 YZ50 , a nice low hour1980 CR80 (purchased from the original owner) that I added a gold DG arm to, a cobby looking but complete and running RM60 (with a few NOS plastics) and a NOS still in the original bos DG gold radial head for an RM50. I would probably consider selling a lot of crap I've accumulated over the years as it seems to get a little overwhelming at times. Some of this stuff really gets in the way of projects I'd like to concentrate on.

Tim, the owner of CRF never made a Gold swingarm, so that's not CRF. It look more like a DG, because DG made all Gold swingarms back then. Bummed that you put #100 on the bike and built it like a Hannah replica bike. You should have made it a Mouse McCoy replica bike. Mouse was the Yamaha factory support rider that rode the YZ60 that year. he had an awesome factory looking bike, built out of a production YZ60. But that's your project and it does look good. Good job.

Tim Ex owner of CRF is now the guy that builds all the colored plastic chain guides and swingarm protectors. I don't know the name off the top of my head, but he came up to me when we were racing up North. He is such a cool guy. I have to thank him for so much when I was a kid. I was his rider for many years. I have so many photo's of him, me and my family. he would always come stay at my house before we raced Indian Dunes or Saddleback back in the day.

I also did a lot of pre-production testing with Ed Sheidler. It was always on the YZ80 from 1980 thru 1983 and some on the YZ125. Ed and I remained friends until he retired a few years back, but I still see him when he comes to the races. He is so into guns now and comp shooting. He's a bad dude with a gun.

Looped out- you have a great idea about the Mouse replica! I wasn't all that happy with the way the 100's look on the bike, so I was going to change it up a bit anyways. If I could just find one of those mini JT supercross front number plates I would be set...but I can't seem to find one anywhere. I was actually thinking of putting number 44 on it and making it a Shane Hunt replica. He was super fast on the yz60 back in the day...wonder what ever happened to him????

My buddy drove 3+ hours yesterday with his 5 yr old daughter who rode an 82 PW50, his 7 yr old son who rode his 83 YZ60 and Greg brought his 84 CR500 to ride. We had a great day. Hayden never once cracked the throttle on the 60cc because the first time he rode it, it spit him off faster than you can say braap. haha Great little bike.

Hey guys. I need a .050 overbore piston and rings for a 81 yz60 but cant find it anywhere. I have read a few posts where some people rebuilt theirs but all I have found has been discontinued parts. Im hoping to get this bike running by summer but with it needing a crank rebuild and crank bearings also, it looks like I will never get this bike running again. So if anybody knows where I can get parts, please let me know. Thanks.

That looks like a THOR swingarm except maybe someone anodized it because all were plain when I worked there.

It is a thor swingarm. I found out it came from E.C. Birts shop. He anodized them all different colors back in the day.

Measure your piston and order the appropriate sized KX60 piston to bore the cylinder to. You need to put a piece of 2 inch masking tape around the original piston and cut out the pin holes and the intake cutaway. Transfer the tape to the new piston and use a dremel or die grinder to match the cutaway. Easy to do.

Below pic is my yz60 with what I believe was the first factory DG swing arm ever tested. I'm pretty sure I cracked this one.
The picture was taken by Steve Skiebel Sr. at Glen Helen around Feb 1981.

Wow, Great thread! I've got a YZ50 restored and a YZ60 rider. I'd love to know how these bikes were modded as I've done extensive motor and suspension work to the 60 and used only parts and technology available up to 1984.
Here's a pic of it just assembled for a fit-up.

Do you still have parts for the RM50
