Bad starts and a one-lined track, combined with minimal speed differential between the top 10. The track prep sucked...not saying he would've won with good prep, but where they started was typically within a spot of where they finished
Stacked field. He legitimately might have a better chance to podium in the 450 class.
He had great finishes and a possible podium at Fox raceway. Not even close at Hangtown.
Qualified 14, finished 11 OA. Besides Farres and DiFrancisco (mentioned because relatively new to Pro Motocross), who did you expect him to beat? This 250 field is stacked.

Umm I expected him to beat a lot of people at Hangtown. The kid grew up 15 minutes from it and if you've ever seen him ride there generally freaking kills it there. After his ride at Pala, I thought he would have more. I'm sure he did too.
Sometimes hometown races put a lot of pressure on a rider and they underperform. That's my guess.
Track was terrible one lined. Even Hunter struggled to move up. Where you started was about where you finished.
Dude what? The track was one lined and not great. Especially when you’re bigger guy like Vohland it’s very hard to get starts. Put some respek on his name after his ride at Pala.
Heck at least he did better than Mosiman for whom it also is a home race. WTH went in with him?
This isn't me talking crap. I thought he killed at Pala and I expected him to crush at Hangtown.
His top end speed wasn't there all day like it was at Pala. I don't know the reason but I tried to be empathetic to hometown race jitters.
if he had dropped a top 5 qualifying time and then started poorly and not moved forward, I'd let you have the one line track excuse but he never had speed all day. You can't tell me that the track was the reason every lap and that he couldn't uncork a hot lap at any one point can you?
I like Max. I'm a Norcal local and root for him always and he's going to have more races this year like Pala than he will Hangtown. I truly believe that .
I guess you missed Plessinger’s comments about the track, which I’m sure were shared by everyone. Such a terrible venue when there are so many other tracks available.
His just not that great .
Lot of riders similar or faster speed then him.
I did not miss them. Everyone had to race the same track so why did others figure it out?
The prep wasn't great this year but the guys complained last week that it was ripped too deep and this week that it was ripped too little.
Also, Hangtown is the best track outside of GH in California for a national. Name one place not named Glen Helen that could take its place?

Regular race/practice days are almost always on point with 4-6 lines in every corner. I wish the Dirt Diggers would just sub out the track build to the guys that run the place the other 11 months of the year.
Max should be placing 4, 5, or 6th, something might not be right.
Max just doesn’t have it.

Dirt Diggers aren't the crew that normally run the track on non-national race days? I actually never knew that.
Zeb Armstrong/REP is who handles the track the rest of the year. Zeb would have probably had the track near perfect.

I guess he had 2 crashes. Max is the farthest thing from a bigger guy. He's what 140lbs?
Field is to even and the boys are all to nice.
Look at guys like Jo, kitchen, vohland. They don't get the start and it takes them so long to get past guys like hymas, farres, ryder d etc.
They get stuck down near 10th.
In this class only hunter and rj can make they way thru. I think deegan could coz he is more aggressive but not so effectively.
These boys need to alpha up or they will never get to the top.
2 weeks ago it was like 60-40 hunter vs Jo. Now Jo is 30 points back.
They NEED to let Zeb just do what he does with his crew for the national - Hangtown will always be Hangtown, but Zeb has proven over and over he will get the best out of that place.
I've been riding that track for 30 years and it's never been as good as it has since Zeb took over.
This. Zeb does a great job. He's a former pro so he gets it and he's raced and ridden the track his entire life. I'd trust him over anyone to prep Hangtown. Him and his team are excellent
Vohland is not enjoying that KTM and will be on a Star bike next year. Then we get to see what Max really can do.
This is purely hearsay but Kitchen rode the KTM and does not like it either. He will be riding for Mitch next year with Shimoda going to Honda.
In other news Ferrandis is leaving Star making way for Webb. Tomac will resign with Star soon.
I know people don't want to hear it, but his last name is what's holding his factory ride.

No idea. There isn't much available. He is not liking the current bike and is looking elsewhere.
Both him and Colt Nichols are without rides in the US for 24. Colt will go WSX.
Why does Levi want to leave star?
Don't know reason but he will be on PC next year.
