Pretty cool he gets a signature bike by canyon
I was just looking at those bikes the other day. Seem like decent speced bikes for the money. I've been away from MTB's for a while and getting back into it , well thinking of getting back into riding a little. I've got a state park 3 miles away and room for a loop in my backyard.
How are Canyon bikes? I'm thinking of either a CF7 or CF8 emtb from them. The giant 900 battery in the CF8 looks like it could help haul me around and help me get back in shape for many miles. And I could upgrade the parts around the frame and motor as needed.
When I first saw that Roczen bike I did not realize it was a signature bike until I took a closer look at it. Have any other MX guys gotten a signature model bicycle like Kenny? I kinda remember somebody having a entry level bmx bike or similar. Aldon Baker was coming out with his own brand of Road bikes a couple years ago. And I know a lot of riders have had personal sponsors for bikes. Super cool looking bike ,glad they went with the red instead of a yellow bike.
Ooh that does look nice. I wonder how the quality is on the Canyon vs something like the Luna X2. I have a buddy with the canyon ebike and the 900wh battery. I've ridden it a little but to me with the giant battery in it the weight over the front end seems to really kill the handling. It just felt so sluggish to me and it was way harder to get the front end over things than my tazer. I've never run the 504wh battery dry in my tazer but you can swap for another battery in less than a minute. I think I'd take a smaller, easier to swap battery over carrying around the huge one all the time.

Canyon is a German direct to consumer brand. As far as I know their bikes are high quality. They even sponsor a few top road bike teams that compete at the highest level, Tour de France. I think their German roots led to the partnership with KR94.
Their USA distribution shop is in Carlsbad, CA. They’ve got a really cool showroom and the folks there are very nice and helpful. If you’re in the Southern California area swing by and see if you could ride a couple models.
Question about your Tazer. It was going to be my bike of choice before I got my Turbo Levo because they are a moto-centric company. I haven't ridden one but just looking at them, they seem to be pretty choppered out. If you have ridden a Levo how does the handling compare? My bike is 27.5" front and back and I love the flickability.

It definitely appears that way but it's shockingly nimble and even climbs really well. The dual crown fork on the pro makes it appear to be a downhill oriented bike but its far more of a Swiss army knife than I expected. I had a 'standard' pro model first with the fox suspension and older E8000 motor but my MX is every bit as nimble but the Ohlins suspension just flat out blows away the fox stuff. I haven't been on a Levo much so I can't make a big comparison but I have buddies with Rails which are similar and those are sweet for sure but its about impossible to beat the performance and spec for the dollar with the Tazer.

Long time lurker, first time posting. Came over from the MTB world and work in the bike industry so thought this would be a fun way to join.
Canyon is a German, direct to the consumer brand. They are MASSIVELY respected in Europe and gaining significant traction in the USA. They have demo drivers around the country and their US base is in California. Haven't heard of any difficulties for anyone experiencing a warranty situation. Have several buddies riding a variety of Canyon bikes. I have not gotten one, yet...
Definitely build top notch bicycles, e and analog. The spec on that bike is pretty excellent for the money. Analog (traditional pedal bikes) have gotten super dialed in the last several years. Meaning, it is kind of hard to buy a bad one. E-bikes are evolving super fast, sort of like computers 15 years ago. Seems like you buy one and it is almost immediately out of date. It is not quite that bad but brands are figuring it out and getting them lighter and batteries longer lasting. If looking at a new e-bike, the Canyon would not be a bad route to go
I've been thinking about a Tazer too. I could get one through Parts Unlimited. I was looking at the Expert model since I was told the dual crown forks were not as good for the tighter trails in this area. My PU rep is also very into cycling so I was taking his word on that. The Expert has the older , less powerful motor . SO to me the Canyon with the EP8 and bigger battery seemed like a better option. Changing out the other parts to upgrade wouldn't be as big of a deal as swapping a motor and still being limited with a smaller battery. They new Alloy framed Tazer MX versions have the newer motors and I think both have 85 torque's . But still the smaller battery a 504 and I think the biggest is a 630. I think they can still be swapped like the carbon fiber framed bikes.
Were I'm a bigger guy, 6'9" and 300ish pounds right now, 230-240 in riding shape. I figured the extra battery would come in handy as I started out . I have only tried riding a Bulls with the Brose motor similar . I only rode it around for 20 or 30 minutes at most. It was a customers that told me to try it out after I put the graphics onto it. I really liked the power of the brose. And I figured that the power of the EP8 would be similar being only 5 torque's less. And then the big battery. I would become a dealer if I was going to get a Tazer so that would involve a bit more too.
How much heavier is the battery ? Would you think going with one of the Canyons with a 730 battery would be better than the 900? The bikes are already pretty heavy, I wouldn't think that little extra battery would add that much more weight. But it makes sense . Its almost twice the size of the Tazer battery.
What is your job title over at canyon bikes?
For the price it seems like a great deal. As far as the ebikes go. Is the frame and electronics all the same and then just the components h=get better as the prices go up on each model? I see 2 different style frames. I was thinking of getting the Spectral ON CF 7 or CF8 . I was thinking the bigger battery on the CF8 and a little better components would be a solid getting back into riding bike for me.
At one point long ago before many MX injuries I was local Expert level cross country speed. I only did a couple real races. The first I did not beginner since I had never raced. And my lap times were 30 seconds a lap faster than the winner of the expert class. So they decided I was not a beginner. I did another race in the local exper class and worked into the lead, but got sick and faded back to 9th out of 100's in the race. I had also cracked my frame in that race and was young and could only afford to either ride a dirtbike or MTB. All my friends were racing MC so I went to MX. And destroyed myself in a few short years. Now years later I'm mostly healed and want to return to the sport I really feel like I should have stuck with. I have not idea if I'll be bale to get close to my former levels of fitness or speed. But I want to make sure the bike I buy can grow with my ability as it comes back. Bikes have advanced a ton since I was riding a lot. And I bet that even a cheap entry level bike is better than my old aluminium hardtail with 2 or 3 inches of travel in the fork. It was just under 23 pounds which wasn't bad . I used to run a large frame instead of XL . But the way the frames are now I think an XL would work better for me on a modern bike.
@fourfourone haha, I work for a component company, we do sell to Canyon (and pretty much all bicycle brands for transparency sake). Do not yet have an ebike or a Canyon. Current bicycles are a Trek, Yeti and Santa Cruz.
From my understanding, batteries and motor tend to be the big differentiators in the e- part of the bike. Bigger batteries tend to add to the costs. I believe with their e-bikes, they do the same frames per model. Their road bikes they do different levels of carbon if I recall correctly. I know Santa Cruz does that with their C vs. CC frames. Then you will see massive difference in suspension and other components. I just got my first bike with electronic shifting and it is pretty sweet. Will be tough to go back to mechanical shifting in the future.
One of the biggest differences in bikes the last few years is the sizing like you alluded to. The front center of the bikes have gotten longer, stems shorter, and bars wider.

Canyon bikes are badass. It's almost backward from the Moto world, where you'd buy a Honda, Yamaha or KTM without hesitation, but a Beta, TM, or Sherco might give you pause.
In MTB, the big names are great, but the boutique brands are even greater. Transition, Commencal, YT, and Canyon are just some of the many smaller brands that build top-shelf products. Honestly, it's probably better than 50/50 that my next bike will be a Canyon.
I've only ever needed warranty once for my 2017 Commencal. It was for the brakes, actually; not any part that the brand made themselves. My bike was 2 months out of warranty, but they handled the claim and got the components replaced. 100% happy with the warranty service.
Since this thread has derailed off to e-mtb reviews, I just bought a 2023 Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Alloy for $5,625 on sale. I am super happy with it's all around performance for the money I spent. It has the most powerful motor of all the e-mtbs and a large battery. I ride on terrain that has a mix of a lot of steep climbs (full power assist) and with the power setting at 50% to 100% used about evenly I only use 1/3 of the battery in 2 hours. I did add cush cores for lower tire pressure and carbon oneup bars for a softer ride and it's perfect for what I do.
I read a bunch of reviews and this bike in the alloy and carbon version is really highly praised.
Thanks for the info. When I was asking about the frames of the bikes I was referring specifically to the Canyon brand and the eMTB's . They looked the same as far as suspension geometry ( as far as the Spectral line) , the CFR model looks like it is a different carbon or something . And they all look like they use the same motor and battery options. It looks like the battery you can upgrade it ,that You can get the 900 on any of the current models. I figure that if the frame, battery and motor are the same , I could upgrade the other items as I go where I find a need for something. The more I hear about the Canyon bikes the more I'm leaning towards one.
Sorry if I helped derail this thread. I am looking at those specialized bikes too. After riding that Bulls with the Brose motor in it. I liked all that torque. And the Specialized bikes have the same or more right? 90 torques right?
I saw the Rocky Mountain brand has their own motors that have the most torque's I've seen other than the Luna, at 108. The Luna bikes do look like they might be fun. More of a mix between a sur-ron style electric motorcycle and EMTB than the others. The Luna bikes have a throttle and can be ridden without pedaling.Might be really fun to ride. and that one with the optional controller that puts out a ton of power. The components on the Luna bikes are also very good for the price range. Anybody on here ride any of the newer Luna EMTB's

54 pound mountain bike so you can get your lazy ass up that hill… 50% easier going up hill 50% less fun going down. Probably handles terrible off steep jumps.
I have read it before and now believe an e-bike is easier to jump. I have a YT decoy mx4 and would rather jump that bike then my other bikes. Just seams so much more stable to me. Obviously if I was doing tricks my dirt jumper be better but just for riding and jumping everything it’s the bomb. I love my bike and with how little time I get to ride it’s nice to have the motor to keep you going. I can wheelie my regular mountain bike for a long ways but yet to get the balance down with the e-bike. And I find myself making noises like a dirt bike when riding on trails. No joke😂
I wouldn't think that the extra weight would hurt it going down hill. The big reason I want an EMTB is that I got on a regular MTB and went to ride a wheelie ( I used to be able to ride them for miles) and when I pushed down the pedal to lift the wheel, my leg /foot kinda folded like it wasn't there. It scared me and made me realize I am still far from recovered from my last injury. I crushed my left foot and it resulted in many surgeries, bones dyeing then becoming infected, more surgery, being in a cast/walking boot for up to a year and a half at the longest stretch, in and out, for 11 years. And that leg , even now another 11 years later is not as recovered as i thought it was. I have gotten it a little better now and adapted to start a wheelie with the opposite leg than I used to use.
So I just want a little help so I can have fun while building my legs back up. If its even possible after so long. I'm looking at the little boost it gives , like how suspension has also made things possible that were not before. That little boost might just make it fun enough that I can suffer a little less and still do something I was good at and not be so bummed out by how mismatched my legs are. And possible be able to keep close enough to ride with somebody and not have them have to stop and wait for me every 5 minutes.
So I'm a rep for PU-who's your rep? I absolutely thought the dual crown fork was a mis-spec before I got my pro. At a few of my trails I ride often there are some tight switchbacks that I thought I'd never make. It does limit your steering a little but I have no issue with any turn that are at my local trails or down in Bentonville which I ride somewhat often. The expert is good for sure but there is a lot that you get on the pro that would cost you a ton to upgrade to on the expert. Plus you can't upgrade the motor.
