I purchased this rm125 last year. I was looking around for a while for one of these because I had one when I was a teenager and I had ridden a couple 125s recently and forgot how much fun they are to ride. This bike still had stock chain/sprocket, front tire, and those horrible steel handlebars that used to come stock lol. It had virtually no rust on the frame and in great shape. The guy I purchased it from said it wouldn’t shift presumably due to a broken clutch fiber stuck in the transmission so I figured I’d buy it and fix it myself. My plan was to just get everything freshened up in stock form, plus fork and shock springs because I’m 210lbs, I figured I would make it a clean reliable stock machine to have some fun on and later down the road have some fun building it up a little bit. Here is some pictures from the day I brought it home:

The clutch was removed when I bought it and a bunch of parts needed to re-assemble were handed to me in a cardboard box. I tore the entire bike down to assess the condition of everything. I took the engine apart and vapor blasted the cases and carburetor, installed new oem seals, oem transmission and main bearings, vertex piston, and new clutch. Here are some photos of that:

I then tore the suspension down and did seals, springs, bushings, swingarm & linkage bearings.

I had a set of stock kx450 pegs so I modified them and installed them on this bike. They are significantly lower and wider than the rm pegs. I’m 6’1 so it helps!

So it was ready to ride. I put about 5 hours on it that summer.  8E0FC398-8517-414E-AEE7-8732BB3C6CC0.jpeg?VersionId=9Mf2hsL6W57Uvkjgw5

After riding it for a little while I tore it apart and started buying fun stuff for it.

When I pulled the cases apart I found a couple pieces of clutch fibers in there. One of them had to be caught between the cases and the shift fork assembly.

I ran into the same thing on my ‘03. Split the cases and found remnants of a broken clutch plate. Fortunately everything looked good otherwise.A2E4EF3C-7024-4EE0-989B-B8E6ADF37220.jpeg?VersionId=AIs

I have new plastic and just waiting on graphics (and good weather) to get a ride in. This will be the general idea of color scheme only with a blue saddle.30D4B5B6-E181-45E4-AB49-EB39F4B16C72

I also am happy that you chose to stay with the OEM plastic! This is the way.

Yup that's what I had going on there. Would be nice if that large transfer hole had a screen inserted between the clutch and transmission side. I considered having one tack welded in.

Added Guts seat cover, Mika sprockets, Pro Taper chain, Moto Tape, Powder coat on the clutch cover, and some fresh case bolts. It's finally about 'done' for now.

Amazing bike both before and after. I had a brand new 2001 RM 125, so I am totally digging this bike, especially since you didn't put a restyle kit on it!

Looking Good! I did a shakedown ride at my local track on my re-built '03. Dang these 125's are a blast to ride!

They are 2019-2023 kx450 foot pegs! I had to cut and grind the support tabs that bottom against the frame so they would sit flat but it was super easy. You will need the springs off the KX as well. It helps a lot being a taller guy. I don't think any aftermarket pegs will sit this low.

Older KTM pegs work as well, I think up to 2015 maybe? And I have read about people putting yamaha pegs on too, just need to do some grinding as well.

I had a ‘03 RM144 for a while and regret selling it. Your bike is absolutely gorgeous! Well done

Nice bike. I grew up riding rm125's and the my 04 was my last and favorite. excellent bike

on the pegs, fastway makes pegs that fit. the barrel can be switched from standard or low position.. The KX pegs look like they arent as low as i think the fastway low position is around 10mm drop down and to the rear. I sat in a more natural position on the bike (5'11'') but then my feet and toes were sitting too low for my comfort.
